When we planned our trip to Jackson I was looking for a hotel with a low to moderate rate. We weren't planning to spend much time at all in the room, so a hotel with a lot of amenities wasn't really what we needed. Econo Lodge offered lodging with some amenities for a very low rate (we paid $59 + taxes for the stay). I understand you get what you pay for, but...
My expectations were not high. All I wanted was a clean room where I could get a good night's sleep. We entered the hotel and a quick glance around the lobby had me concerned. It was fairly clean but smell wasn't as clean as I had hoped. When we checked in the clerk at the desk was very pleasant. I had booked a non-smoking room, but when she reviewed the accomodations we were put in a smoking room. She had us changed in no time. After telling us where to park for closer to access to our room, we left the lobby.
To cut to the chase let me list the good qualities and then the not-so-good qualities. Good: room held a cool temperature, linens were clean, shower head was awesome, plenty of hot water, towels were soft, the air conditioner was continuously running (I like this because it hides the sounds from outside and in the hallways). Not so good: pillows were very lumpy, bed was hard and somewhat lumpy, the blanket looked as if it was a king-size blanket and had been cut in half to accomodate the double bed (we had booked two double beds instead of king because we were not sure if our children were coming with us).
The furnishings looked older, as did the counter top in the bathroom. The room didn't have a bad odor to it, just not a fresh odor, and the walls and ceiling looked as if the paint had been touched up in a color that just didn't quite match.
Again....I wasn't expecting much and we didn't get much. Look at the price and know this is not a "hidden gem" of a hotel. The prices is low and you get what you pay for. Next time we are planning a trip with minimal use of the room, we will probably pay a little more.
(we did not eat the breakfast provided so I cannot attest to the quality).
