Gives the traveler a sense of what General Hood was seeing, prior to his attack on the Union Army at the Battle of Franklin.

“The spot where the decision to fight the Battle of Franklin was made”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2012

Easily accessible just off Columbia Pike about two miles south of downtown Franklin. The view from Winsted Hill sets the stage for all that happened once General Hood told his senior officers that they were to promptly form ranks and storm the Union works to the north. Pause to read the half dozen or so monuments with their moving tributes to the Confederate commanders who fell in the battle (monuments erected by the Sons of Confederate Veterans or Daughters of the Confederacy) and recall William Faulkner's words, that in the South, "the past is never dead. It's not even past."

“Civil War Must See”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

This site gives you the scope of the battlefield the Confederate Army faced before the Battle of Franklin. Seeing the vast open expanse that the Confederates had to march across is a chilling reminder of why this was one of the bloodiest battles of the war.
