One of the benefits that comes from traveling off the beaten path is that every now and then we come across a local hidden gem.
Having cut my “Mexican Food Teeth” in the suburbs of "The City Of Angels" particularly East LA, I have a high standard for authentic “South Of The Border” food.
Don Juan tacos definitely meets this threshold.
Strolling the grocery shop area of Don Juan as I am waiting for my order to be prepared, I spot the icing on the cake of our gem discovery.
Sitting on the counter next to the cash register is a container filled with Mexican deserts. My favorite a strawberry jelly roll topped with white flakes of coconut winks at me. I just do not have the heart to leave it sitting trapped in that plastic prison, I have to set it free.
As it turns out my order which had three tacos is just not enough. Another carnitas one on corn tortillas that is served sprinkled with onions and cilantro is a must.
A squeeze of lime and a drizzle of salsa verde and I am almost certain that I am back in East LA.
