“Worth a Try”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2014

This was our first time to eat at Nick's. The food was good, but not great. My wife had shrimp and I had stir fry. Shrimp was slightly over cooked and stir fry needed more seasoning as it was a bit bland. The menu is varied with lots of choices (go on line to see it), so we will go back and try some other things. (We have heard it is a good place for steaks and prime rib so will try that next time.) The atmosphere was very good - pleasant, neat, clean and quiet. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was very nice, extremely polite and everything you could want from a waitress. The food came very quickly and was hot when we got it. They have a full service bar for those who like a drink with dinner. They had the local craft beer on tap (Calfkiller) which was a pleasant surprise.

“Shabby Maintenance, Good Steaks/Reheated Salmon, Good Service”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2014

Ate there 8/13. Restaurant sits high on hill near interstate exit. As others have said, it's quiet. In fact there was only us and one other couple in the large seating area at dinner time. So, we were seated immediately and the waitress came to get our drink order. We noticed that the carpet was worn and frayed, desperately in need of replacement. Also notice heavy stains around the air vents. Overall, the place is in need of some serious maintenance.

We viewed their menu on line and were surprised to find the current prices are about $2 per item higher. Inflation I guess. Got a salad upgrade which cost 2.50, but salad was pretty good. I had steak and salmon. The steak was very good. It was tender, juicy and well cooked. However the salmon was very much overcooked and dry. It appeared that this was fish left over from yesterday and not fresh. A baked potato loaded rounded out the meal and was good. Wife had a seafood pasta dish which she said was good.

Service was good throughout. All in all, not bad, but the shabby environment, reheated salmon and value of their pricing makes us unwilling to return. Maybe you too should reconsider.

“Not noisy...you can actually talk!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 13, 2014

Nick's has been in Cookeville for many years and is just a great restaurant.
Food is still prepared the way it was years ago when taste, freshness and texture mattered.
Great menu, varied. Love the filet, fish dishes and more.
Salad dressings are home made and delicious.
Famous for ice cream pie.

“I hate to say it, "Average Food"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

I have been here many times and each time I just find the food to be average. It is never bad and it's never great or excellent. The service is always good and there are a few tables with some nice views looking out over the town. If you don't want the usual Franchise food places, I would give Nick's a try. I would go with the prime rib if you like beef. I must say the ice cream pie is really Good.
