“Good ambience, Good home cooking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2012

A lady friend and I had lunch today at The Sliver Caboose Restaurant in Collierville, TN. I have been there several times before and am always pleased with the large number of items on the menus they offer for lunch and dinner. The friendly waitress welcomes you, takes your drink order and in record time is back with a special list of items for that day. They have a couple of entrees each day and a list of about half a dozen vegetables. Everything is cooked fresh and seasoned just right. For anyone who loves reasonably priced good home cooking like grandma used to make, this is your place to plant your feet! A real treat for the children is to watch the several trains, complete with signals, move around the tracks near the ceiling of the restaurant. Also, it is a favorite with the locals, and there is always a crowd.

“Two Schools of Southern Cooking...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2012

There are two schools of Southern cooking, one that uses sugar in just about everything, the second who believe sugar is for desserts only. This restaurant is from the first school. Sugar is in everything from the chicken and dressing to the lima beans. I'm from the second school of Southern cooking, so I was greatly disappointed. Gave it a second try, thinking my choices the first time were just a fluke. After all, a lot of people put sugar in their cornbread. The second visit I ordered stuffed bell pepper, black eyed peas and baby lima beans. Each dish was sweet. It's a shame because our waitress was very pleasant and the atmosphere was comfortable and clean. If you don't mind an all sweet meal, then you'll love this restaurant.

“Silver Caboose in Collierville, TN, as it's name implies, looks like a caboose inside!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2009

Went to the Silver Caboose in Collierville, TN, for Sunday lunch and it was quite busy but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. There are 2 sections to the restaurant...one section has the decor of a caboose and the section we sat in didn't look as much like a caboose but still nice although very noisy and we couldn't carry on a conversation very well. The prices on the menu were average for Collierville...their Sunday special meal was $10.95 for meat, veggie & potato. We ordered sandwiches which were $7.95 to $9.95 that included fries or chips. The sandwiches were very good but not worth the price. I think they are charging for the atmosphere of the restaurant resembling a caboose. We waited a long time for our food to arrive but like I said, they were quite busy. The people that ordered the Sunday specials got their food way before we did. We noticed most of the people were dressed up coming from church, I would assume and we weren't dressed up which made us feel somewhat uncomfortable. The waitress was average...not as friendly as she should have been and she didn't bring the food out...some guy did that because she must have been busy taking orders from other people. All in all, it was a good dining experience...food was very good and hot but over-priced. Just fun going to different places to eat for a change just to see what they are like. We were visiting from out-of-state and not residents of Collierville.
