Silke's is a great lunch spot if you want to avoid the burger and fries routine. They probably have one of the most varied menus in town, including several vegan and vegetarian dishes. Their salads are fresh, tasty, and a reasonable size, their pizza is good, and their sandwiches will appeal to individuals who enjoy European style sandwiches. They have several soups every day (even when the temperature is over 100 degrees) and they are popular with the customers. Lunch will run about $10 per person. Silke's is close to the university and quite popular with the university faculty. If they are busy, it can take a while to get your food because they prepare things as they are ordered. They have a variety of European artisan style breads and sweet rolls every day and the most popular can sell out quickly, so if you see it in the case, better get it! They have coffee drinks, but I have not tried those.
Silke is also an artist and has been graciously displayed work by local artists in the bakery since she opened. Most of the pieces are for sale. There is also a children's play area.
