I'm staying in the Wingate, Clarksville for 5 nights (business trip)
There is quite a bit to like about the Wingate, especially when compared to the other hotel choices in Clarksville, however there is room for improvement and the improvements wouldn't be too expensive or hard to implement.
The hotel outside is nice looking and in great shape
The lobby and great room are also modern inviting and clean
There is a nice size excercise room, pool and jacuzzi.
2 elevators serve 4 floors
I was on the 4th floor and it was totally non-smoking
The rooms seemed quite sound-proof
TIP: choose a room on the non-highway side for a quieter experience
My room was pretty clean, although there was a slight odor in the bathroom and a check behind the bureau revealed crackers and dust bunnies.
The room decor is 90s style....mid brown colors
Nice alarm clock
This is not a suite, so no kitchen, but there is a small microwave and min-fridge
Room ventilation is a wall AC and the window does NOT open
There is wired and wireless internet, however the wired did not work and the wireless was weak.
The TV was old and had a very blue tint
Staff was very friendly all the time, however:
1) They did not seem to know what to do about the internet and didn't seem too interested in resolving it (following up)
2) The breakfast was not staffed on the Monday due to someone not showing up.
3) They do seem to be somewhat short-staffed at times
CONCLUSION:
I really wanted to like this hotel.....to me, it has the basic makings of a very good hotel if improved in a few key areas.
The Good:
- Overall hotel and rooms are quite new and seem well maintained.
- The design and ambience of the hotel is nice.
- Staff are friendly.
- Great room, excercise room, business room, pool area.....all are good.
To Improve:
- Increase staff and improve staff training to be more attentive to guests needs
- For breakfast, include some fruit salad, real whole wheat bread, selection of teas,...ie. some healthier choices. Also, all dishware is styro-foam (not ECO friendly)
- Replace old out-of-tune TVs with LCDs or plasmas
- Fix the wired internet and upgrade the wireless
- Improve room cleaning
- Upgrade bed linens to the newer white comforters and bedding as other hotels like Residence Inn are doing
