I'm staying in the Wingate, Clarksville for 5 nights (business trip)

There is quite a bit to like about the Wingate, especially when compared to the other hotel choices in Clarksville, however there is room for improvement and the improvements wouldn't be too expensive or hard to implement.

The hotel outside is nice looking and in great shape
The lobby and great room are also modern inviting and clean
There is a nice size excercise room, pool and jacuzzi.
2 elevators serve 4 floors

I was on the 4th floor and it was totally non-smoking
The rooms seemed quite sound-proof

TIP: choose a room on the non-highway side for a quieter experience

My room was pretty clean, although there was a slight odor in the bathroom and a check behind the bureau revealed crackers and dust bunnies.

The room decor is 90s style....mid brown colors
Nice alarm clock
This is not a suite, so no kitchen, but there is a small microwave and min-fridge

Room ventilation is a wall AC and the window does NOT open

There is wired and wireless internet, however the wired did not work and the wireless was weak.

The TV was old and had a very blue tint

Staff was very friendly all the time, however:
1) They did not seem to know what to do about the internet and didn't seem too interested in resolving it (following up)
2) The breakfast was not staffed on the Monday due to someone not showing up.
3) They do seem to be somewhat short-staffed at times

CONCLUSION:
I really wanted to like this hotel.....to me, it has the basic makings of a very good hotel if improved in a few key areas.

The Good:
- Overall hotel and rooms are quite new and seem well maintained.
- The design and ambience of the hotel is nice.
- Staff are friendly.
- Great room, excercise room, business room, pool area.....all are good.

To Improve:
- Increase staff and improve staff training to be more attentive to guests needs
- For breakfast, include some fruit salad, real whole wheat bread, selection of teas,...ie. some healthier choices. Also, all dishware is styro-foam (not ECO friendly)
- Replace old out-of-tune TVs with LCDs or plasmas
- Fix the wired internet and upgrade the wireless
- Improve room cleaning
- Upgrade bed linens to the newer white comforters and bedding as other hotels like Residence Inn are doing

Stayed here while attending a corporate business meeting for 3 nights. Had to ask for a "clean" room immediately upon entering my room - bathroom vanity and other surfaces were sticky. Floor was dirty. The second room didn't have toilet paper; clerk at front desk couldn't send up any because she was the only staff member working.

Other problems included:
Thin sheets, alarm clocks and light fixtures that didn't work properly, wake-up calls at the wrong time, gross shower curtain, and a "sour" smell that permeated the room.

Other guests that I traveled with experienced similar or worse problems. Overall customer service was non-existent.

Stay elsewhere if you visit Clarksville.

Located in Clarksville, did my business at Ft. Campbell. Not too bad of a drive. Maybe 25 minutes. Very close to lots of restaurants. Breakfast was better than the norm. A couple of hot items each day. Manager's reception each night was a joke. The tap is WAY to overcarbonated. A slight pull of the tap results in 1/2 inch of beer with the rest in foam. Plan on sitting there drinking foam if you want free Bud Lite. Room was clean and neat. Internet needed network cable because wireless was very weak.

I have stayed at this hotel since 2000. It is, by far, the nicest property in the area. There have been times when I had to stay at other hotels in the area, but none of them meet the customer service and overall hotel appearance that the Wingate Inn offers. The staff remembers my name on each visit and the manager has been there since the hotel opened. They must be doing something right. I hate when this hotel is sold out, because I do not get the chance to stay at my home away from home.

The people in this hotel were very nice but completely unable to handle situations which required important involvement. I called the Wingate 800 # directly and reserved a king room for 4 days for a long weekend in September. The room had an unusual smell upon arrival but Clarksville isn't a large metropoliton city so we shrugged that off. Upon arrival we were given keys to a room not yet cleaned. We found prior visitors things in the room, and only 2 bath towels in the bathroom. The phone did not work and we were required to visit the desk with any requests. Given the size of the town, I probably would have overlooked all of these things; however, after sleeping in the room for one night my back and neck were stiff and very uncomfortable. I asked if all the mattresses in the hotel were the same as I was very willing to move to any other room if the mattress was in good condition. I was told that all bedding in the hotel were new pillow top mattresses which had been replaced the previous year. I was encouraged to spend another night as I might change my mind, "there have never been any complaints about the beds before, you are the first." I felt compeled to give them the benefit of the doubt, I though maybe all the traveling prior to arrival was part to blame. I did state that if I felt bad the next day I would cancel my reservation and move to another hotel. The next morning I felt worse than the previous day and went to the desk to let them know that I was not satisfied and felt that they should be aware that upon inspecting the bedding, I found it to be a regular mattress with a Hampton Inn tag still attached. (yes I took digital photos!!) The young lady at the desk said she didn't know how the tag got there, (it was factory installed). I asked that my complaints be forwarded to upper management and the owner, I was assured that they would relay the information. It has been two weeks and I've heard nothing; upon calling the number listed in the Wingate Headquaters brochure, I was told that it was private facility problem and they had not even heard of my complaint. So much for a company that touts "Satisfaction Guaranteed", even the home office wouldn't help! Save yourself the trouble and stay elsewhere, there are many hotels in the area and perhaps you will save yourself several little headaches that can make traveling less enjoyable.
