We drove an hour and 1/2 from my parents house for a two night/3 day mini vacation. We did alot of the 'tourist' things;
The Aquarium-always entertaining-great for smaller kids-but even our teenager enjoyed the butterfly room!
I would have to say pass on their new 'river explorer' boat ride-it was ok at best-didnt see a whole lot of anything-but might be prettier in the fall when the leaves are turning.
Good place to eat-Sticky Fingers BBQ. There is one Downtown and at the Hamilton Place exit off of i-75. YUMMY!!
A must do is go over to the North Shore-and explore the many locally owned shoppes-just go early in the day-we went around 6 and everything closed by 7.Good Dogg-has the best hot dogs ever!
Dont waste your $$ on the 'ghost tour'. It was alot of walking-which would be ok-if you where going to see something-alot of-"ok-a building used to be here but now it is a Chili's parking lot".
Rock City is a go-if you are up for a BIG walk-and steps-and creepy knomes everywhere.
Dont waste your time or money on Ruby Falls!!
The incline is ok-but once you have been on one-they are all pretty much the same.
4+ stars for the Chanticleer Inn B+B up on Lookout Mountain-GREAT stay!!
On day 3 we decided on our way out of town to go white water rafting-after driving over an hour-and finally finding the place-we where told that no boats go out on Tues or Wed. (wouldnt that have been nice of her to tell me that on the phone-when i had called the day earlier!!!) So we ended up at a level 1-2 (another 30 minutes away) and took the lazy river rafting-it was ok-if we hadnt had kept getting stuck on rocks. Sounded like a good idea at 12:30 In the day-but at 6pm when we where leaving-and then had a 2 hour drive back to my parents-made for a very LONG DAY!!
all in all-if you never have been to 'nooga' as they call it-it is worth a weekend trip!!
