“An excellent hotel complex”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 1, 2013

I stayed here for the novelty, but was pleasantly surprised by the facilities. I was only staying for one night, and part of me regrets that I wasn't staying in a train car, rather than the standard motel-style rooms. I had plans to explore downtown Chattanooga, but spent the whole evening walking around the complex/train station, there was so much to do and see, all within the safety of the complex. I had an excellent dinner in the Station House, with the singing waiters, followed by ice cream from the store next to it. I spent the next morning exploring the shops too. Cannot recommend this hotel complex more.

front desk super nice, quiet while we were there, parking good, grounds kinda interesting to a tween girl, but halls & rooms needed lots of updating! felt like it was the same carpet and decor that was there when I first stayed here in the 80's! Beds actually weren't too bad, especially considering the decor. Breakfast was pricey for the quality, we walked around the corner to the Bluegrass Grill - yummy! This was close to our event and super cheap on PL, but in subsequent visits we've stayed in much nicer places for not very much more money.

I am sorry to hear that you weren’t happy with your accommodations. Let me assure you that we have renovated since the 80’s. I know because I do the purchasing for these renovations. Three years ago, we finished a 1 million dollar plus renovation to our guest rooms and corridors in Building 3 to brand standards. It is requested regularly by thousands of guests because of the oversized rooms, balcony or patio for each room. We just finished another million dollar renovation to Building 2. In addition our capital plan, we spend $870,000 dollars annually on maintenance and landscaping. Thank you for your kind comments about our staff. Come back for another visit soon.

I booked a room - it was fine. But I wished I'd booked a sleeping car in an old refurbished rail carriage. The trains don't move any more, but old carriages have been converted into bedroomsw with en-suite facilities. They really add to the experience of staying in this iconic hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a rail car

We love old things and while some of the hotel is a bit dated, it is an old train terminal after all! Customers can stay in a variety of standard hotel rooms but also have the option to stay in a renovated Pullman car! So cool. We went "off season" but the complex is very kids and adult friendly! The entertainment at the Station House is absolutely awesome. Chattanooga has become quite the art and foodie haven! A great little college town with a lot of history but also full of modernisms as well. Free electric shuttle offers tourists convenient transportation around Aquarium area and points downtown. Walking friendly and residents are proud of their city. I was greatly impressed by the hotel staff and the selection of restaurants available. Ethnically diverse so something for everybody. We definitely want to go explore some more when weather is warmer. Plenty of hiking and other adventures to keep you coming back.

Stayed four nights at the Choo Choo during a cold and rainy four days in March, 2013. Stayed in building two. The Chattanooga Challenge went on that weekend and we were able to view participants climb over the cabooze in the back parking lot as part of the route of the race.

Our double room was fine. Though the chamber maid seemed very overworked with the elevator out of order, but she made every effort to be pleasant and helpful. The indoor pool was a popular place on several of the ocassions that we walked by.

An annual free film festival took place in the center next to the hotel during the weekend and everyone was invited to view and vote on the films.

The Choo Choo has atmosphere that is from a time gone by and is interesting to see. We enjoyed the flaming lighting along the train tracks and main lobby. If you don't stay in a train car, it is still fun to see if you can check one out to see the decor.

The Choo Choo has a nice looking atrium restaurant, but we never got the chance to eat there. In examining the breakfast menu, the pricing seemed average with nothing very expensive.

Within a few blocks is a coffee shop and two eating places that were good. One was theTerminal within half a block of the main entrance of the Choo Choo. For an informal fare, Champys is a very popular eating spot within a few miles. They serve all types of chicken, fried catfish, and specialty beer with very affordable pricing. The outside of the restaurant is not as appealing as the atmosphere inside.

Room Tip: Check the Choo Choo site for their pricing and then compare with Hotwire, Expedia, Orbitz, and other...

We were there 3-23-2013 and the 3 and 7 yr old loved it-pool time, room service, ice cream, roaming the shops and trains while two of the 3 adults nursed sicknesses. The rail car rooms are a unique experience-DON'T miss it! Service and food are always great. Lots of things to do in and around town, TN RR excursions, Lookout Mtn, Chickamauga, Hamilton mall, Aquarium, Ruby Falls, the park at the Bridge, good places to eat. Great place for a weekend & the Choo-Choo is the IT place to stay!

Chattanooga is a nice town to do a stopover on a road trip, this hotel is a bit of a walk from all the main downtown attractions but it's also it's own attraction. A fairly large property to explore.
It's pretty cool
