Owner description: Did you know The designation of DUKW is not a military pun - the name comes from the terminology used for military vehicles in World War II; the D indicates a vehicle designed in 1942, the U meant "utility (amphibious)", the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles. Although technically a misnomer, DUKWs are often referred to as duck boats. Another popular nickname was old magoo or simply magoo. Though the origin of this term is unknown, it probably refers to the odd shape of the vehicle. DUKWs became known as ''Ducks'' and are still in use, as well as purpose-built amphibious tour buses, primarily as tourist transport in harbor and river cities.

“Great Ride”

Our guide was funny and very knowledgeable about the history of Chattanooga. He had a relaxed non memorized presentation. The ride was very enjoyable.

“Great way to see the river area!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

Really enjoyed the tour. We were on the last ride of the day on a Monday and had the "Duck" to ourselves. Our Captain was full of information about the downtown area and was a true expert on local history. He even took time to enjoy the river portion of the tour himself as we took a little extra time to watch a paddlewheel steamer getting emergency repairs on the river. (They had a log stuck in the paddlewheel.)

Very relaxing and a great way to learn about the aquarium, the riverside Indian graphics, the other local boats, the bluffside museums and galleries, and the area parks. Would definitely recommend to someone visiting Chattanooga for the first time.

“Fun for a history Buff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 9, 2012 via mobile

I enjoyed the tour. Lots of history with a close up view of the river attractions. Our guide was very knowledgeable with lots of fun facts about Chattanooga as well as world war two history I learned a lot about the Indians that lived in the area as well as local people that made the city what it is today. I'm sure every member of your party would enjoy this. Its location is near other attractions within a five block area so you can pack a lot into one day with a little planning. We will do this again.

“Touristy but fun”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

Yes it was touriisty but, we were tourists! This is a fun thing to do and we learned about many other things to do and visit while on the ride. The location is right down town and easy to drive by so watch the address. Once parked there, you can walk to most attractions - leave the car there parked for $5.00.

“Very neat and different”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2012 via mobile

Used a groupon. The ride was educational in so many ways. Tour guide explained everything he was doing that made the duck drive and float. My brain hurt from all the info. Would and will do again soon!
