“a historic bit of Chattanooga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2011

The ride up the side of the mountain is breathtaking and a little scary for some. This was a mode of transportation for some people years ago, and perhaps still is today.

“Fun but very pricey”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2011

I take my twin 4 year olds on the incline with their grandads sometime. My boys love trains so the incline is a neat thing for them to see. It takes you all the way up the mountain and you can see out and get a neat view. The prices though are outrageous! My Dad pays for us because otherwise I don't think I would pay that! At the top there is a lookout point and a gift shop. We usually walk from the top down the sidewalk to the Civil War park and have a picnic and then tour the park. Then we walk back and ride the Incline back down.

I also HATE that they charge for parking! I think for the prices you are paying to do the Incline you should not have to pay for parking too!

So it can be a neat thing to do and we enjoy it, but the charge for parking and the high prices are not worth the appeal of the event. So I would only recommend if you really think you would enjoy it.

Also note that I don't think you can bring strollers on the Incline with you unless you can fold up the stroller very small. The aisles are narrow and a steep climb at the top of the mountain and bringing on a stroller would be a pain. If you don't plan on actually walking to the park though you would not even need a stroller.

“Nice view from Lookout Mountain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2011

It was a bit pricey, but fun to ride the incline. Going in the fall was a special treat because of the beautiful leaves that we saw along the way.
We also liked the Point Park at the top of the mountain, lots of civil war history info and nice view.

“History worth doing...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2011

If you have some time to spare and want to experience something completely unique, then take the time to do the Incline. You should schedule it around lunchtime and hit the Blacksmith Bistro in St. Elmo, only steps away from the Lower Incline Railway Station for a some lunch and a beer, and on a nice day you can even sit outside ! Also when you reach the Higher Incline Railway Station make sure to go on the Observation Deck for some great views and Point Park is only 3 blocks away, so make sure to include that in your visit.

“Unique addition to the trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2011

I have mixed feelings about the incline. I thought it was interesting and fun but if I had to cut one thing from the trip this would have been it. My mom loved it though so it was worth it. I did enjoy the views and it was something you can't do anywhere else. We enjoyed it. At the top of the mountain you can walk a couple blocks to Point park. It was an easy walk and there were some great houses to look at along the way.
