“Worth A Visit!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 9, 2012

As a NASCAR fan, we felt that it was worthwhile to make a quick stop at Bristol Motor Speedway when passing through on Interstate 81. We called a week in advance and scheduled a tour. Unfortunately the day of our tour, it was raining so the tour was cancelled. Regardless, they allowed us to walk around inside the Stadium, and we were able to walk around the fence outside of the actual track. We were amazed by the banking and size of the Stadium. The tour is $5, so I definitely recommend that you call ahead and schedule one in advance if you are passing through, but even if you don't schedule a tour, stop by and check it out.

“There's no race like Bristol”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

This venue is the near equivalent of watching a race in a football stadium! You can see the whole track from just about any seat in the place. Yes, you will encounter some real rednecks, but they're generally harmless. Also, don't forget ear plus. Lastly, to hear the race broadcast, you really need a headset of some sort. I would recommend renting a race scanner which allows you to listen to driver/crew conversations as well.

Every year we look forward to taking our out-of-town kids, grandkids & friends on a trolley ride through the millions of lights the BMS puts up for charity.

“It's Bristol Motor Speedway in Lights, Baby!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2012

from JeriWB.com

A visit to the Bristol Motor Speedway in Lights will not disappoint, but make sure to pull your car into line as soon as the sun goes down. We visited the day after Christmas and had to wait for an hour to get in, but visitors on other dates say they had to wait two and even three hours to enter. Weekend admission is $12 per vehicle and weekday admission is $10. If time allows and you want to pay extra, ice skating and a tubing hill are also available.

The holiday lightfest begins its loop outside of the stadium where you will gradually wind your way around to the dragway before finally getting to take a lap around the racetrack amid flashing lights synchonized to Christmas music. The entire circuit took an hour to complete, but that is without stopping at the Christmas Village located in the center of the track. It was closing down for the night when we entered close to 11 pm, otherwise we could have checked it out.

Everyone who enters is reminded to turn their headlights off, but not everybody does. Also, try not to get too picture happy unless you have a good camera. An iPhone with the HDR setting took a few decent pictures and videos, but that's out of many, not to mention don't even think about trying to take them through window glass. My husband fared better by using our Canon T3i camera, but we've only just begun to get into serious photography, so many of the good pictures were by accident.

Various themed-displays run thoughout. Many displays function as advertisements like the Wellmont Christmas Care Unit that shows Santa falling off a roof and getting all better in the hospital. Others will greatly please children such as March LP Gas's Dinosaur Land where actual flames top-off a volcano. My personal favorite was the Sea of Illumination sponsored by Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg, Tenessee. The "12 Days of Christmas" segment found all three of us in the car trying to member the gifts associated with each day and my cousin Karin and I ended up chiming in with our own rendition of the song. A true highlight included the chance for visitors to rev it up on the dragway. We were no exception, but unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how you look at it) speedbumps only gave us a chance to get our car up to 45 mph.
