We stopped here on the advice of our hotel front desk clerk. The man apparently knows his 'que.
While this place touts itself as a Texas style BBQ joint, unlike most Texas places, they do pork better than brisket. My wife had a chicken and brisket combo while I enjoyed a pulled pork, brisket and smoked sausage combo. All was delicious and plentiful. The chicken was extremely moist and had great flavor, the pulled pork and smoked sausage had terrific smoked flavor. The brisket flavor was a bit on the mild side for me, but was done perfectly. They serve their meat sauceless, but sauce is available for those who wish to drown out the fantastic flavor of the meat. The coleslaw (you've gotta have that to have good 'que) was very good as was the deep fried okra and accompanying requisite sweet tea.
Service was average and cost was a bit higher than other places around, but to be expected for good BBQ. It's labor intensive, so you pay for it.
The place has a fantastic "hole in the wall" dive feel, and the wait staff was not the most refined that I've run into but don't let that turn you off. It all just feels right. It fits. I'll go back in a heartbeat.
