The scenic drive was wonderful, but a local woman, named Taffy, gave us a great tip! On the drive, there is a hidden treasure--Spearfish Falls. We wouldn't have known it was there and I don't think others traveling through would have any idea either. On the scenic Spearfish Canyon Scenic Byway, look for Savoy, and the Spearfish Canyon Lodge. On the side of the road with the restaurant, park and walk behind the building until you see a trail and a chainlink fence. Follow it and be patient--the falls are worth the walk and the time. It is a pretty walk anyway. Do not go back the way you came. When you pass the falls, continue on and the path back to the restaurant building is shorter--and you will walk on a bridge over the falls, up some steps and you're back at the restaurant! Very nice little "insider" info that turned out great for us!
