“Whatever season, it's beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

We make this drive at least once in each season - just to see the colors and the canyon walls. In winter, Bridal Veil Falls becomes the great ice crusted "fall," lots of tourists in the summer, excellent trail and hiking access, fly fishing along the creek....

“Allow a half day, take it easy”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013

This is a great area to spend at least half a day driving through and exploring. The scenery is fantastic and there are plenty of places to stop and get some good photos, several water falls are worth visiting. If you can, get out for a walk for a few miles, there are plenty of little trails dotted around and the views are easily worth a little effort. Highlights are the Roughlock Falls trail and the Spearfish Falls trail. We did enjoy the '76 trail to the top of the canyon but were disappointed with the view at the top as it was obscured by trees in most places, having hiked Crow Peak the day before I was probably expecting too much! Would love to visit again when the colours change, or even when there's some snow on the ground.

Take it slow and enjoy the ride. Get out along the pull-offs and experience it. Absolutely amazing! Don't forget to take a detour to Roughlock Falls!

“Devils Bathtub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

On our trip to Spearfish Canyon we hiked Devil's Bathtub, a hiking trail on private land but the owners permit hiking. It was once a well kept secret but is now a popular hike. It's about a mile to the waterfall and pool. You cross the creek multiple times. The hike is somewhat technical since its not a maintained trail. There are also various trails that were created as folks try to find easier routes but all get you to the same place in the end. Very cool hike in the middle of the forest. I would recommend a hiking stick or pole for balance as you traverse the rocky terrain and cross the creek.
