“Fall colors are amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2012

A wonderful, easy drive that can be breathtaking in the fall when the leaves are glowing orange and yellow. There are many trailheads and short hikes to wonderful waterfalls, and fantastic for photography. Be aware that the road can get quite congested on weekends and holidays in the fall. Best to make the drive on a weekday.

“Spectacular in the fall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

I wish we had more time to explore every winding road. I'd love to spend a week there. The roads are well maintained and well marked with plenty of pull off for photography stops.

One of the Great Fall Drives in the US. With lunch (or Breakfast) at Cheyenne Crossing it makes for a perfect day.

“Beautiful fall colors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2012

You can stop at the various trailheads and hike to the falls. My husband and I are retired and in avergae shape and we were able to do the hikes (just needed some breathers along the way). The trailhead for Spearfish is behind the restaurant at the bend in the road. Roughlock Falls is well-marked and an easier terrain to walk. You can see the falls from a short hike, or go the whole distance to the bottom.
