“Good hotel - not motorcycle friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2011

We stayed there after Sturgis bike week. The hotel was OK but feel we were not treated fairly. We were told we could not park in the covered check in area but 1 hour later 2 bikes parked there, in full view of the hotel employee who told us we could not. She did not tell them they could not park there. They stayed there all night and when my husband asked why we were told we could not park there, another desk clerk said they were trying to find the people who owned the bikes (BS). What's more, the clerk said "I understand your frustration" in a way that communucated she really did not care if we were unhappy. I guess they never found the bike owners because they were there until check out.

The hotel itself seemed OK, no bugs, but we were so disgusted by the experience that we felt like we spent way too much to be treated so poorly.

The Sturgis Bike Rally is one of our favorite times of the year. There is a lot of excitement in the air and we love the people we meet who are passing through Sioux Falls on their way out west. I sincerely apologize for the unfair treatment you received during your stay. I would feel the same way and the bikes that were parked in the fire lane should have not been allowed to sit as long as they did.
Some hotels are not as strict with fire lane policies but due to personal experiences, this is one rule I enforce with my staff. Lives are more important than material items but it is obvious that this was not handled correctly. Again, I do apologize for the unfair treatment, you have every right to be upset. We appreciate your business and hope you had fun in the Black Hills. Again, I do apologize for the situation; we will do better next time.

I give this hotel two stars for outstanding service and fast, free in-room WiFi. The rest of our experience was disappointing.

Our room was dirty and poorly maintained -- stained carpets, a terrible odor, the microwave had food spills down the front, the bathroom sink had a black ring, the bathtub did not drain, the toilet ran... The smell was something awful when the A/C was not running. Worst of all, it got cold during the night and when we turned on the heater, a horrible smell poured out. We turned it off immediately, but not soon enough. It triggered an asmtha attack in my husband. Neither of us slept the rest of the night.

On the positive side: The desk clerks working the afternoon and evening shift were wonderful -- helpful, cheerful, and efficient. They recommended a nice restaurant where we could relax and have a good steak (Minerva's) and gave us directions to avoid the freeway. The hotel is just off the freeway -- restaurants are quite a distance away, especially those downtown.

The hotel looks great from the outside and booking was easy, but it has not aged well.

We spent one night here when we were traveling to Canada. It was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Bed was comfortable, but maybe that is because we did not check in until 10:30 p.m. We would stay again for an overnight stay or a few nights. Not our style for anything longer.

Not overly impressed especially considering the price. We found that there were a lot of families with small children resulting in a lot of noise, running up and down the hallways, etc. The room was clean.

I am very sorry to hear that your stay was not a pleasant one. I have shared the comments with our housekeeping staff and more specifically the head housekeeper as this is completely unaccepatble. We are embarrassed that we could have missed items such as this in the room but it is our mission to see that it doesn't happen again. Thank you for the feedback; it only helps us improve!

Very disappointing service from cleaning staff. I was in a non-smoking room that reeked of smoke, including the bedding. I'm not sure how long the room had been non-smoking, but apparently not long. I had them change all bedding, which they were very good about, but the smoke was still in the furniture and curtains. I purchased a neutrilizing spray and sprayed the carpet, furniture and drapes and that helped. The carpet was all stained and in terrible shape that I wouldn't even walk on the floor barefoot.

The cleaning staff was one of the worst I have encountered. They only cleaned the coffee pot once in the week I stayed there. When returning to the room in the evening, the grounds and coffee would still be in the coffee maker. They didn't leave more coffee or cups and I had to go down 4 times to the front to get them. They also did not replace the drinking cups for water or beverages. The microwave was a mess and never cleaned. They fluffed the pillows and pulled the covers up but didn't really make the bed.

On a positive note, the room was very adequate in the respect that it provided free wi-fi, had a microwave, refrigerator, iron and ironing board and coffee maker and many channels on the TV. There was coffee and tea and a free continental breafast. The location was great for getting on and off the interstate to go in almost any direction you wanted. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. My room also had a sofa and coffee table, a recliner near the window and a desk for the computer.

I sincerely apologize for the problems encountered during your stay. I will share this review with my head housekeeper so that we can follow up with the housekeeping staff members. We will review the cleaning standards and requirements with our staff to insure that these things are not missed again. I will also leave a message for our maintenance staff to clean the carpet in this room as well. We have a carpet extractor on site so it is a pretty quick task for us to do. Thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy the rest of your summer!

Everything at this hotel was fine exept for the stale smoke smell in our non- smoking room! We asked to be moved but they said they were booked. The whole wing of the 3 rd floor stunk. They brought us a can of deodorizer - didn't work!

Thank you for your response regarding your recent stay with us. I am very sorry for the stale smoke smell that was in your room. We recently converted four of our six smoking rooms to non-smoking, as our intent is to be completely smoke-free in the future. I can honestly say that those four rooms are repeatedly cleaned top to bottom in an attempt to continue to remove the residual odor. The humidity is our biggest battle this time of year in removing that smell.
We continue to try to stay on top of the problem with frequent "heavy duty" cleansers as well as ionizers in those rooms. We are following the recommendations of professional restoration companies and in times of low humidity it seems to work very well.
Again, I am sincerely sorry for the discomfort you experienced during your stay and we hope that you will consider us again the next time you are in Sioux Falls. We have many rooms available and since there are only four rooms that have been converted, we will continue to treat those rooms with extra TLC.
We appreciate your business and thank you for traveling. Enjoy the rest of your summer; it will be gone before we know it!

This was the best hotel of our 9 day trip. Rooms were very comfortable and quiet...even located near the pool. The staff was very helpful and friendly...with check-in, driving directions, and misc questions about other Choice Hotels along the rest of our route. It is truly an awesome hotel for the rate.
