“Great place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

We found this hotel on the hotels tonight app. It was very affordable so we booked a room for the night on our way to Mt. Rushmore. We were very pleasantly surprised! It's very clean and the staff goes above and beyond friendly. It was a great stay and if we are in the area we will definitely be back.

Conveniently located next to highway. Outside of building is currently being renovated, but don't let that deter you. Staff was polite and friendly. Room was very comfortable and clean, having been recently renovated. Breakfast selection is good. I highly recommend this hotel.

Hotel is nice. Rooms are clean and comfortable. Only bad thing about room was the bathroom is small. The courtyard is very nice with a nice gas fireplace, waterfall feature and even a grill to use. There is a pool but we never used it. They are planning to add a water slide. Exercise room has a couple treadmills and elliptical and some weights. They also have bicycles they loan if you would like to ride bike path. Breakfast was the usual Eggs, biscuit and gravy, muffins, rolls, cereal, toast, fruit, yogurt etc.. Would have liked some bacon or sausage links. Easy access from interstate and only minutes from 41st street for dinning and shopping

My family had a fantastic experience at Dakotah Lodge, and I strongly recommend supporting this local, non-franchise establishment. My wife, two small children and I stayed overnight earlier this week (Thursday night, 8/28/2014) on our way to visit the Laura Ingalls Wilder Homestead in De Smet. (1) The pricing was very reasonable - about 2/3 the cost of other local 'big name' hotels (2) The front desk staffer at check-in (Abbie) was genuinely friendly, knowledgable and very efficient (3) The wi-fi service was excellent...was able to log in right away (4) Room was immaculate, with very trendy & modern fixtures, furniture, and even in room microwave & fridge (5) Dining area was bright, clean, and thoughtfully designed -- everything you'd expect from a quality 'complimentary breakfast'.

The property is in the final stages of it's remodeling, so we didn't get a chance to use the pool, and also didn't have time to enjoy the gorgeous inner courtyard. On our next trip through Sioux Falls, we'll definitely be staying again, and planning for extra time to do these things.

On an additional note, I bumped into Randy, the owner, and had a great chat about the work they're putting into making Dakotah Lodge a very family-friendly and hospitable home away from home. I was really impressed with his passion for his lodge, and am happy to support, through word of mouth, visits by others to Dakotah Lodge.

My husband and I stayed here one night after driving all the way from southern Michigan. Despite ongoing construction to another part of the facility, the lobby/front desk area was uncluttered and welcoming. The staff were all very friendly, and our room was just what we needed. Complete w/ king bed, fridge, microwave, and wifi, we were set for a good night's rest and a delicious full breakfast bar in the morning. We took our fare in their inner courtyard area: stonescaping, babbling "brook," fire pit, grill, trees and flowers to make you feel as if you're truly away from the city.

We got the most for our money on this one, an incredible price given all that came with the stay. The only negative things of note: the tub/shower in our room didn't drain the best, so it got a little deep as you showered. Even so, everything was clean and therefore didn't give you the feeling of standing in filth (we made the front desk aware of the issue, so I'm sure they rectified the problem). Also, the bathroom was fairly tiny, not usually a problem but...there wasn't really anywhere to set things, you know, like a makeup bag or just one's clothes. The sink was nice and big, but there was no vanity around it, not much space.

All in all, I couldn't let those couple little things keep me from rating this hotel as I feel it truly deserved. For the money, you gotta stay here!

Thank you so much for the 5 star review. We are so happy you enjoyed your stay. Sorry about the slow drain. We have not gotten all the old plumbing removed as yet. With 102 rooms you can imagine it takes awhile. They will all be replaced soon. we will be looking forward to your return. Donna Gratzfeld, General Manager

Our family stayed here on our way to Rapid City, SD. Would highly recommend this hotel. Great customer service upon check-in, newly appointed rooms, comfortable beds, super clean, and a good complimentary breakfast in the morning. You can't beat this hotel - especially for the price!

Thank you so much for your wonderful 5 star review, we really appreciate hearing that our guests enjoy all the extra amenities we provide. The courtyard with barbeque and fireplace have been a great plus. Many smores have been prepared by the fireplace. Guests have enjoyed the fish in the water feature area. A good time seems to be had by all. Safe travels and see you again soon. Donna Gratzfeld, General Manager

We stayed at the Dakotah Lodge for one night on 08/27/14. This hotel was such a nice surprise. Our room was newly remodeled and very nice. There was a work station, a big leather chair with accompanying ottoman, a mini fridge, microwave, and a cute baby coffeemaker. The bed was so comfortable that I hated to crawl out of it in the morning. The bedding appears to be of a lightweight type which can be laundered between every customer instead of the icky bedspreads that are reused over and over that you find at other hotels. The included breakfast is in a very cute country kitchen setting and the food was standard hot breakfast bar type food that is found in hotels, but still very good. There is a wonderful courtyard with a fireplace that made me wish we were staying another night, so we could actually enjoy it (we arrived very late).
The hotel is still hard at work remodeling their pool area, but it looks like it will be a good time when it is completed. The staff was very friendly, helpful and attentive.
Also of note, our room had a slight "chemical" like smell upon first entering the room that I think came from the new carpet, but it was very slight and not noticeable after just a few minutes. I'm sure the problem will dissipate after a short time.
If I find myself in the Sioux Falls area again, I look forward to staying at the Dakotah Lodge again

Thank you so much for the 5 star review. It gives the staff a good feeling knowing we exceeded your expectations. They all work hard to give you a pleasant stay at a reasonable price, and providing the extra amenities that you normally will not find at some of the more expensive properties . The courtyard is a big hit with most of our guests and we all ready have had several return visits because of it. One guest mentioned how much the fish have grown since early summer. We feel we are a comfy , cozy kinds of place and are happy you enjoy it too. Hope to see you again soon, Donna Gratzfeld, General Manager
