Falls Park in Sioux Falls, SD has had such a phenomal turnaround, it shouldn't be missed when visiting the area. Maybe that is why I like it so much. Living just across the border in Minnesota, my first visit was on a dark fall night in 1971. All I remember is that we looked at some water by the moon and maybe a light. A few years later I began employment in that area and it was a creepy place to drive by....but gradually got better with the bike trails that encircle everywhere in the park. Over time, it has been cleaned up, the bums are out of there (Yes, bums), more and more lights for safety, many new trees, shelter houses/bathrooms, summer light shows, magnificent Christmas light shows, sidewalks, landscaping, more parking, the old mill opening as a restauraunt, the horse stable as a tourist area and art museum, and even area for weddings. Yes - definitely worth your time and viewing the falls on different times of the year is very unique...starting with some ice/snow in the winter to the raging waters of a heavy snowfall melting to the beauty of fall leaves with the river trickling so calmly (maybe) over the beautiful red rocks. I've seen it all and will continue to visit and bring more friends to the area. Thank you Sioux Falls for making this your 'gem' of parks.
