“Election Night Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2012

We were treating ourselves to an election night escape, and we were amazed from the walk into the hotel greeted "Hello Mr. & Mrs. Roth", and felt special and welcomed our entire stay. We only encountered the front desk check in, but was at eased with the care and importance she gave to us. "Any problems in your room, and I will be up to take care of you". The whirlpool room was spacious and romantic and well equipped kitchen area for cooking and glass wear. Very homey and comfortable. I don't think I have ever stayed in a better quality or equipped room ever!! If you have any chance pick this one, no disappointment. We did not use the full breakfast or pool area, but we did have visual pleasure of both sights. Thanks for taking care of us, to our hide and then elation to our Election Night Escape!!

Room Tip: Very Quiet, clean, and homey!!

My week long stay at Grandstay Suites was fantastic. The 2 bedroom suite was well appointed with a kitchenette and table. Breakfast was great, varied and amble with hot and cold offerings. The personnel were friendly, helpful and gracious. The Grandstay is well situated to hiking, the Black hills, Badlands, shopping and downtown old town Rapid City. I would absolutely stay there again.

Room Tip: The staff had great suggestions on where to go in South Dakota.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating . Breakfast was ok, but the eggs were terrible. The hot water pot was frequently only warm. The pool was on the small side, but the kids enjoyed it very much. The beds were adequately comfortable, and the hotel was quiet.

The room was small, and we had to move the bed to provide wheelchair access. The accessible room lacked a lever door handle to the bathroom, making it impossible to use independently. Additionally, the roll-in shower was too small to accommodate a rolling shower chair.

We recently made our first family visit to Rapid City, SD in late July. The primary reason for our trip (from MN) was to visit a local university (South Dakota School of Mines) for my son. We decided to stay in town because his campus visit started at 8:00. We made it a four day weekend so that we could take in the sites and attractions of the Black Hills area.

Overall, we really liked the GrandStay Suites. We booked a 2 room suite, which I thought was "reasonably priced" compared to other local hotels. Things we liked about the hotel included:
- We had our 2 teenagers with us . . . having the extra bedroom was very nice. Plenty of room, 2 bedrooms, plus living room plus kitchen.
- Free internet included
- Free breakfast included
- It was nice having the fu
- good service
- full size refridgerator
- Very good location right off main highway I-90. Shopping Mall less than block away. Plenty of restaurant chloices within short drive.
- About 30 mins. from most major attractions (Mount Rushmore, etc)
- My son & I took tour of local airbase/aircraft museum while my wife/daughter slept in/went shopping

There really wasn't anything major that we didn't like about our stay. The scrambled eggs at the breakfast may be one thing . . . but there were other choices such as waffles, cereal, yogurts, fruit, etc. that left us with plenty of good things to fill us up before we started our day.

Room Tip: We went for a 2 bedroom suite . . . great choice for families with 2 or more kids (the extra space w...

I don't know what the regular rate is for this hotel since we stayed during Sturgis week. The hotel is not very old and has been kept up. Staff very friendly, especially the lady that took care of the breakfast bar in the mornings. They don't close the breakfast bar down right away so gives you a little more time to eat if not a morning person. Very quiet place and we felt safe. Right off of I-90 so very handy getting anywhere you needed to go. Newer area. I was a little disappointed when I got in the room and it wasn't as big as the pictures show on website, very small suite. Overall we would stay here again.

Room Tip: I booked this room on the hotel's website and was able to get a better price then what any other...

Stayed here in a two-bedroom room for two nights with 4 adults while on a road trip of Mt Rushmore and the Black Hills. We checked in the first evening after arriving and the hotel was easy to find, just off of I90 and close to the Rushmore Mall. It seems to be in an area that is still developing, so there isn't too much nearby within walking distance. The hotel looked relatively new, so new in fact that the dishes in our room still had price tags partially still on them. The room was exactly as advertised. The bedrooms themselves were on the small side, but still comfortable. The kitchen area was nice, lots of cupboard space, but very few dishes. Housekeeping staff washed them all every day which was a nice touch. Appliances were new, and worked well. The fridge even had a built in ice-maker. There is no "dining area" per se, just a counter with two chairs, so a group of 4 can't eat together, but that was super minor. The living room area was nice, large enough, but not enough seating for 4 adults comfortably. Just a small couch and a chair. No coffee table either. The TV's in the living areas and bedrooms were older tube-style ones, but worked well. Bathroom was clean, and lots of towels were provided. The only problem was that the bathroom had no fan system, so it steamed up the whole suite when someone showered. It was nice that the unit had a central-air sort of system. We never used the pool area, but it looked pretty small. It did have a small balcony overlooking it though from the second floor. The breakfast area was just off the lobby and I ate here both mornings around 0630. It has the regular continental breakfast items, incl a waffle bar. They alternated the hot dish items every day. One day it was eggs and sasage, the other it was biscuits and gravy. The coffee was only warm, not hot, but they made it throughout the day, so it may have been old by the time breakfast rolled around. If I were to stay in Rapid City again, I would absolutely look for this place. But if I were to go to Mt Rushmore and the Black Hills again, I would look at staying in Keystone. The only thing we did in Rapid City was sleep, we spent the days in Deadwood, Sturgis, Keystone, Mt Rushmore and surrounding areas. So there were more convenient hotels closer to the tourist sites. But this place would be ideal for a family.

Room Tip: Two Bedroom suites were worth the extra money

When I booked our stay at this hotel one of the main reasons I decided on this hotel was because it had a morning breakfast bar. I had booked two suite rooms because we had a traveling companion with us. We knew that we would be getting out early to make all the sites and having breakfast at the hotel would be great. On the first day they ran out of egg omelets by eight am. There were families standing in line to use the waffle iron because there were no eggs. The second day the scrambled eggs were full of water and the third day they ran out of Milk and orange juice before 8am. We were there for five days and had to eat breakfast somewhere else. I informed the front desk. The ladies at the front desk were great but I must say that after the problems we had we never heard from the manager. He never once contacted us. The rooms were great and kept quite clean. The pool is quite small and stayed cloudy most of the time. They do not have a business area for you to print but there is an Office Max about a mile away with everything you need. There is no restaurant in the hotel but there are plenty in the area. I think for the cost you could probably find another hotel with suites that would offer a better breakfast bar and a manager that would care enough to talk to customers that have experienced problems

Room Tip: The rooms in this hotel did not filter out the noise. We were on the top floor and could hear child...
