“Consistenly good property”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

The room and bath were both very clean. The bed was comfortable. Everything in the room worked properly and the furnishings were in good condition. The halls and other common areas are clean and neat. The property seems to be very well maintained and cared for. Staff is friendly and the breakfast is good. I have stayed here a couple of times a year for several years and have always had a good stay.

I have stayed at this hotel so many times I cannot count. The front desk employees are always friendly and helpful. The rooms have always been thoroughly cleaned and furnishings modern. The lobby and breakfast area feel like home. Great location, restaurants nearby. No traffic noises. I'll stay again and again. No complaints on this hotel at all.

Okay, I feel a little creepy posting this review of a hotel I stayed in to go to a funeral following a review by someone who stayed in this hotel for a funeral (were we at the same funeral???) but regardless of your reasons for traveling to Rapid, this hotel is a great choice. As always, bullet points at the end of this review if you're in a hurry and want the highlights.

As I said, we came in for a funeral. When we got there I saw a local paper sitting on a table and noticed the obituary for our family member was in it. I mentioned it to the person checking us in and he promptly went all around and collected all of the newspapers they had left so the family could have them. Very thoughtful! Also, we were given a bereavement rate which I had no idea existed so we didn't know to ask for one. The manager could have totally charged us the regular rate and we would have never known the difference, so that was really nice.

Everything about this hotel is comfortable. The couch in the main area is so comfy it's hard to get up out of it and the fireplace is nice and warm. The beds are comfortable, we slept really well, and the rooms are quiet. We were near the ice machine and still never heard a peep. The shower has the right amount of pressure and is high enough so that tall people don't have to scrunch. Even the chairs in the dining room are super comfortable.

The breakfast buffet (complementary) is really good. They normally have some type of egg dish (we had omlettes one day, scrambled eggs the next), sausages that look a little scary but are actually surprisingly tasty, waffle machines with regular and cinnamon batter, some pastries, fruit (although our first day the apples were all bruised and the bananas were pretty black--the fruit was good every other day), cold cereals and microwaveable oatmeal. The scrambled eggs were inedible to me, and I am pretty accustomed to eating mass-produced egg dishes, but the omlettes were good. There's also juice and coffee. There's normally carafes of coffee that are out all day and ice water as well. The juice machine is turned off after breakfast.

For other meals there is a Ruby Tuesdays right at the bottom of the hill the Inn is on so it's really close (we drove anyway because you have to descend steep stone steps to get there which was not possible for some of our party). I'm also told that the wholesale Black Hills Gold place across the street has amazing jewelry prices! I did not go but saw purchases made by others and regretted missing it.

The area the hotel is in itself is a little on the sketchy side but if you have a car, down town is not far away. Don't miss the restaurant down town that's in the fire house!

Anyway, here's the summary of my review:

Pros:
--Clean, comfortable rooms with comfortable beds
--Rooms seem quiet regardless of location
--Shower has nice pressure and is tall people friendly
--Comfortable lobby area and dining area
--Conveniently located next to a Ruby Tuesday's for lunch and dinner
--Apparently they have a bereavement rate
--Entire hotel is wheelchair accessible as far as I can tell
--Coffee pot in room
--Hair dryer in room
--Coffee and ice water available all day long

Cons:
I don't really have any which is rare for me :). Just a few observations:
--There's not much parking in the front of the hotel at all but if you turn in early normally you can get a space.
--The juice machine gets locked once breakfast is over as does the refrigerator with the yogurt in it so don't bother trying to have any off hours.
--The wifi is a little annoying because you have to go through their sign-in page every new time you use it but it works just fine
--The television does not have the number of channels available that the guide claims are available.

Room Tip: We were near the elevator and the ice machine and still heard no noise so I suspect any room would b...

We went to Rapid City for a funeral; arrived at Comfort Inn, friendly greeting, great rooms, good morning breakfast. Great overall experience! Will stay again if I'm in the area. Great location to what we needed.

Room Tip: We had a suite, which was absolutely beautiful.

We have stayed at many hotels in Rapid City before, but this hotel is surely the best. It is very clean, good breakfast, large pool, spacious work out room, and friendly staff. We had a suite for our family of five and it was nice to have so much space. The cleaning staff was friendly and prompt on getting our room cleaned every day. The desk clerk was always helpful, from offering us something to eat in the middle of the day to lending out a deck of cards. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are visiting Rapid City.

We were able to reserve a block of rooms at a very reasonable rate and rented the meeting room to hold a birthday party/family reunion. Ruby Tuesday, which is right next door, catered lunch. It was great! The staff were very helpful, even found us a cake serving set when we realized we had a cake and no way to cut and serve it. It was easy for those family members with little ones to come and go during the afternoon. I would recommend this to anyone planning a small (20-25) family reunion. The only downside was that the internet was not working well the whole weekend and we had to drive home in a snow storm.
