“Great Place for the Kids to have fun!”

Hampton Inn Rapid City

Sep 28, 2007

This was day ten of our thirteen day road trip to see Yellowstone, Grand Teton Mountains, The Bad Lands and Mont Rushmore. We came into Rapid City late around 10:00 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2007. The manager was extremely kind and allowed our children ages nine and twelve to go to the most awesome swing pool I have ever seen at a Hampton Inn. The heated inside pool, has a huge double loop slide. All the kids loved the pool. I must admit, I to had a blast. While the kids and I were at the pool, mom was back in the room indulging herself in the huge jet-tube. The room would have been great for a romantic weekend! But I can’t complain about anything, the room was great. The only problem was with the breakfast. There absolutely were not enough tables and chairs for the hotel guest. We had to eat in the lobby. So, if you stay here and the place is busy be sure and get to the kitchen early!

“Good stay in the Family Suite”

Hampton Inn Rapid City

Aug 23, 2007

We recently stayed at the Hampton Inn Rapid City in the family suite. The family suite is basically a queen queen room with a small king room attached to it. The king room is separated by a door from the main room and does not have a bathroom - just the king bed and a tv and a night stand. You can not exit the king room to the hotel hallway, it is only attached to the main room. It worked very well for our family, but if you need two bathrooms then you are better off booking two adjoining rooms.

The breakfast every morning was very good. There were hot items that changed daily (waffles one morning, egg and canadian bacon breakfast sandwiches the next, etc) as well as plenty of good choices for breads and fruit.

The kids really enjoyed the slide in the indoor pool. We spent 1-2 hours each evening at the pool and appreciated that there were always plenty of towels available as well as a changing room/bathroom right near the pool. The hot tub was hot!! and relaxing.

All in all we had a perfect stay. I highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in the area. The location worked well for us as it was close to a WalMart, Golden Corral, Perkins and a fun miniature golf place. Mount Rushmore and all the other area attractions were a quick drive (no more than 45 minutes).

“Look Around For A Better Value”

I thought this was a very average hotel compared to other Hampton Inns. I paid $156 + tax per night and not sure why I paid this rate for a very average hotel. Yes, the room had a wet bar and larger than average, but this place was nothing special and I think I paid a lot. My recommendation is that you look around for a better value, if you're in this area. There may be much cheaper rooms that are equal or better than this place.

Also, I would prefer not getting checked in by someone who has face piercing jewelry and tattoos. Okay, call me uncool, but I think there has to be some kind of dress/appearance standard if the front desk folks are representing the Hilton brand. I'm not say they were unfriendly (eventhough I didn't get a type of room I requested (top floor) and had problems with the room), but a professional appearance is important.... I think.

“Excellent value for the money - great hotel!”

This trip was a cross-country move for a friend and we chose Rapid City as one of our overnight stops along the way. I'm an elite member with Hilton HHonors and I specifically chose this hotel because $100 seemed pretty reasonable and it was part of the Hilton chain. Additionally, I travel quite often for my current job and before this I worked for American Airlines, giving me the opportunity to travel the world staying in a number of hotels so I'm very experienced in what to look out for in the way of hotel features, cleanliness, amenities, etc.

This hotel was excellent.

The breakfast was a little lacking - serve yourself consisting mostly of juices, cereal, fruit, etc. but no made-to-order omelettes, etc like a lot of full-service Hiltons or Hilton Garden Inns offer. However, the beds were perfectly comfortable, the rooms were very spacious and seemed especially large, almost like suites. The furnishings were contemporary and comfortable and included a sofa and lounge chair in the room. The hotel is located in a pretty central area with easy access to I-90. Very good value for the money.
