While we didn't go to a lot of shops, where we did go was fun! There are a lot of local products here...my favorite was the jewelry my husband bought me from the Mercantile. Nice coffee shops and some great looking restaurants. There was a festival of lights one night and that was fun to go to with my neices...great family town.
Downtown Rapid City is a destination in its self. The shops, the statues, the fantastic resturants, the music, art alley. I could go on and on.
Downtown Rapid City is definitely worth walking around. There is great history to this town and many restaurants and small businesses that are well worth seeing. I recommend Firehouse Brewing, Zoom Soda and Candy and Cranky Jeffs Bicycle Shop.
There were lots of little shops and activities. We loved Art Alley right beside the Alexander Johnson hotel. We spent more time walking through looking at the art than we did at Rushmore.
My girlfriends and I went shopping a few weeks before Christmas and it was fun. It was snowing (no wind) and with the decorations it was definitely a white christmas. You have to be careful though to make sure you don't slip on ice when crossing the streets. The shops tended to be boutiques which allowed for some great finds. We had fun!
