We stayed here for three nights in October. The room was very spacious and the beds were comfortable. Be prepared to be impressed when you walk in as there is a very nice fountain and the glass elevators (not so good if you have a fear of heights) are fun to look at.

We enjoyed our stay and the only problem we had was that our floors were a little dirty around the beds and we found a pizza crust under the TV stand. We let the management know and they took care of the mess. So, other than that, we enjoyed our stay!

We visited the Rapid City area for a few days and the Holiday Inn was a great place to stay. Check in was quick despite the fact that the hotel was full and we found all of the staff to be friendly and helpful. The rooms were spacious and cleaned very well each day. The restaurant served a great breakfast but the service was very slow. Our only complaint is that the pool water is frigid and there never seemed to be any towels around.

I got a really good rate on the Holiday Inn website for $63 a night during a three-night stay. That is why I chose this place. The hotel is defintely an older hotel, but it was clean a spacious. The pool area always seemed to be a little crowded and pets are allowed. There is a nice little lounge with about 6 slot machines and a coffee shop down in the lobby. Also an onsite restaurant which we didn't get to try. The room had kind of a musty smell. Hotel is located next to a park with a small alke that offers fishing.
The hotel is located in an older area of town and is a few miles from the newer area along interstate 90. It is centrally located to the attractions of the Black Hills and the Badlands though.

My seventy-three year old mother and I stayed at eight different hotels in fifteen nights, and almost all of them were fantastic (thanks in part to reading reviews from fellow travelers at TripAdvisor).

We stayed for three-nights at the Holiday Inn Rapid City-Rushmore Plaza starting on Saturday, July 29th, 2006. When we arrived at the hotel, we were very impressed with the lobby area and the waterfall. We were originally given Room 529, but when we entered the room, it only had one bed, and I reserved a room with two. When I went back down to complain, I was told the second bed was in the sofa. This was unacceptable, as I did not wish to sleep on a sofabed, as my reservations clearly stated a room with two beds. The lady at the front desk did not seem too happy, but managed to find a room with two beds. We ended up on the eighth floor in Room 811.

The room was nice and comfortable and very large, with three pillows per bed, a clock radio, a “comfy” chair, a desk and chair, a round table, and a large (fifty-plus channel) television in a cabinet with remote, as well as a beautiful view of downtown Rapid City and a park.

The medium-sized bathroom was functional and relatively clean, with three sets of towels, a hairdryer, and one bottle of shampoo. However, while the room was spotless, the bathroom fan was surprisingly quite filthy for such a posh hotel. Also, we found that the glass containers were only rinsed and not cleaned, as I could still taste the Listerine I used from the night before.

I made use of the Business Center downstairs, and was able to access the Internet through one of the computers, as the other one did not work. We found it strange that such a big hotel would only have two elevators, and we found that they were very slow and we always had to wait a long time to use them.

After taxes, the American Automobile Association room rate came to $137.11 U.S. Funds per night for three nights. We rated this hotel as the second best on our trip, but we still felt uncomfortable staying there. It was just too "high class" for us, and we seemed "out of place" at the hotel.

“You can do better in Rapid City”

Holiday Inn Rapid City-Rushmore Plaza

Sep 2, 2006
4/4 found this review helpful

Stayed at the Holiday Inn Rushmore Plaza for 2 nights in August 2006. Things did not start well when, even though I had booked a suite, guaranteed it and checked in early in the day, mysteriously the suite was unavailable. I wound up with a junior suite -- really just a regular room in my book -- which the hotel magnanimously offered at a slight reduction in price from the real suite. The chair had a rip in it and was dirty; the loveseat had seen better days. The food in the restaurant was mostly inedible. I sent my dinner back, something I've only done a handful of times in my life, because it tasted so bad I couldn't eat it or anything else (the server candidly said "I'm supposed to ask you what you want us to do. Is it gross?"}. The breakfast buffet ($10) is mediocre at best, although the chef who makes eggs and waffles to order is terrific. The personnel are friendly, and everybody is really nice about apologizing for the problems, but, unfortunately, if my experience is any indication, they have a lot of experience apologizing.
