“Great ride that was fun for the whole family!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2013 via mobile

Good horses that were well-selected for the skill levels in our group. Great 1 hour ride up a hill with parts of the trail that were a former rail road track. Everyone enjoyed my mare's colt who followed along behind his Mommy in line. Great fun for all!

“Fun for the whole family”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2013

If you only do one trail ride in the Black Hills area, this is the one to do. Andy can customize the length/difficulty of the ride per your request. My family has no riding experience, and we were able to do a 2 hour ride (even though there was a lot of uphill/downhill riding). This is not a do-nothing type of trail ride for adults. You need to steer the horse and avoid branches/tree trunks. My 7 year old did not need to steer the horse because one of Andy's staff handled/steered her horse for her. My 9 year old had no problems steering his horse by himself. The terrain is interesting and varied because you are riding on elk trails. If you fall behind, the horse sometimes trots to try to catch up to the other horses. Andy was helpful in giving riding tips and making sure that we did not steer the horse incorrectly. He also gave interesting commentary on the surrounding area while we were on the ride. I highly recommend that you do a trail ride with Andy. Andy's trail ride can accommodate a rider who is > 240 lb. Riders 4 and under can ride with their parent for free.

“Ride of a lifetime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2013

Our two families were absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to take in Andy's Trail Rides. Andy and his courteous staff provided us with an adventurous trail ride. Each of us had different riding experience and Andy was able to match each rider with an appropriate horse. Andy interacted with each of us throughout the ride, making the ride very personal! We highly recommend making Andy's Trail Rides a part of your Black Hills experience. You won't be sorry!
Thanks Andy! From Wisconsin and Minnesota

“Black Hills must do!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2013

My boyfriend and I booked a 4 hour ride where owner Andy took us to through Deerfield Trail. The trail had amazing scenery with a variety of topography and various points throughout the river for the horses to walk across. Andy is very outgoing, knowledgable about the area and made sure we were comfortable with the ride. We've been on horses before but this a step up from the trail rides we've been on. He lets the horses gallop at certain points and boy, that was fun! At the halfway point on the trip, we stopped at an old, abandoned robber's hideout which overlooks a boxed canyon that was used by horse thieves back in the day. Highly recommend Andy's outfit for those seeking an awesome horse experience. He offers shorter rides for the novices and even a 14 hour one for the more adventurous! He's easier to get hold of by phone rather than email. If you do visit the Black Hills, make Andy's Trail Rides part of your visit!

“Don't leave Deadwood without this under your belt!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

We had no problem getting in contact with Andy and booking a two hour session. Obviously the man does a sterling job, looking after 20 horses and running a top notch establishment. I had no riding experience what so ever before going, and the hole trip was well within my comfort zone. Andy is very knowledgeable and helpful, and he put me on a nice calm horse. We rode off through the woods. No walking tracks, paths, forest roads, just straight off through the bush. This to me was the best part. Breaking your own trail and going where ever you and the horse are capable of getting. This is what separates Andy from the rest. He told us it makes you a better and more confident rider quicker, and he wasn't lying. Before the end of the ride we did a few slightly uphill quick dashes to really get a feel of what the horse is capable of doing. The horse probably only opened up to maybe 20-30%, but for a first time rider, it felt like 130%. Really getting the feel of the horse getting into its stride and stretching out.

Great trip Andy, thanks again. Look forward to the four tour, hopefully in the very near future!
