I made a reservation for a Federal government business trip at this hotel through Choice Privileges online, then later became ill and changed the reservation to one week later. I received the confirmation of change, printed it out, and would be happy to share it with anyone who doubts this. When I arrived, I had no reservation. This was in January and the place was almost empty, so the cheerful desk person quickly got me a room. When I questioned further about the lost reservation, I found that my earlier reservation was not canceled, and therefore the room fee was charged. The desk person did not know what to do about this, so copied all my documentation for the manager, who would be there in the morning.
In the morning, the manager refused to credit the room charge back to my government credit card, saying it was hotel policy to charge for no-shows and the error was Choice Privileges problem. Mutliple emails to Choice Privileges have not been responded to. She also refered to a no show from the previous night that had been charged. I failed to see how that related to me when my issue was obviously due to a computer problem that was in no way my fault. The no show from the night I was there may well have been due to weather (freezing rain), yet this nearly empty hotel could not care less about customer service or doing what's right.
I told the manager I would contest the charge through my credit card company, and she said (now becoming rude) "go ahead", we will contest it too as its Choice Privileges fault, not ours. While I'm sure she's not responsible for setting the policy, as that falls on the ownership. The result of this contest is not yet determined.
I will spend as much of my personal time as is necessary to make sure this hotel suffers many times the amount of this unfair charge in lost revenue go make up for the stress (and perhaps financial penalty) I will experience in dealing with improper charge on my government credit card. Please don't stay here! There are several other nice hotels close by. You have also been warned about using Choice Privileges' reservation service.
