“Wonderful little town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

Had a great visit to Mt. Rushmore and loved the little town of Hill City. The hotel is at the end of the town, but very close to everything that you would need. The hotel was very busy and this caused a problem with parking as there were not enough parking spaces for all the cars. The room was comfortable, the staff was helpful, and breakfast was good. Needs a little work to get it up to very good.

Thank you Janice and staff for a wonderful stay! We stayed in a suite style A, Suite with two queens plus adjoining king room for a family of 6. Rooms were spacious, new, clean. Our suite was in building A, which must be a new addition to the hotel. I talked to staff and management several times to verify reservation, ask questions about the room set up, and each time the staff was so pleasant and helpful. The espresso bar in the lobby was amazing, and all of us enjoyed the breakfast buffet--many good options. Kids meals were free in the hotel restaurant with a paid adult meal. Overall, it was such a clean and comforting place to stay that we really did not want to leave the last day!
The main street of Hill City curves around, almost an L shape, and this hotel is at the end of the L, (a little far for walking distance for kids, a healthy walk for adults) to the busy downtown area. We were pleased by this as we could drive there in 2 minutes but still escape the noise and bars at night to sleep. There is a market next door if you need food/ supplies. Hill City was a perfect location to rest at night but day trip to the attractions nearby.
Just a tip, our costco membership saved us about $100 over a four-night stay. You have to book through the costco website.

Room Tip: You cannot go wrong with building A or B, the newer building that also houses the pool area.

We stayed here for 4 nights in a room with 2 queen beds and were very satisfied with the location and the facilities offered. The free breakfasts were very substantial. In busy times it was sometimes difficult to obtain a table but we were able to use the main restaurant tables.

We stayed one night at this hotel during the busy summer season. It was in a good location near the center of town. It was close to the 1880 Railway Museum that we planned on checking out during our visit and also close to the restaurants. The rooms we had was clean and the bed was comfortable too. There was an indoor as well as in outdoor swimming pool and a hot tub. Breakfast was available at the main building and was really good. I would reccomend this hotel to others staying in Hill City, SD and would also stay there again as well.

We stayed at this hotel for one night. It is a clean and convenient place to spend a night or two. It's an older hotel and there was a musty smell in our room but it was very clean. It serves as a nice base to many of the surrounding attractions. There are many good restaurants in Hill city within walking distance of this hotel and it allows pets.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with your pet, let them know ahead of time since they only allow pets in certai...

We wanted to stay in this hotel based on its location and reviews. It was shown as sold out on the BW website but I called them directly to see if they had any rooms available due to last minute cancellations. There was a room available with a king bed for a decent (for the area) rate. Unfortunately, the room on the first floor of the main building was one of the smallest I have ever seen at a Best Western Plus hotel, the bathroom was really tiny with a small single sink vanity and the view from our window was of the kitchen's back doors. The other king bed rooms we saw when doors were left open appeared to be much more spacious. We probably should have asked if there was another room available but we had already brought all our stuff in before we saw any other rooms and we were exhausted from a long drive on our arrival day. That being said, the room was clean, the bed was very comfortable and the room had a recliner, flat panel TV, fridge and microwave. The staff was very friendly during our 3 night stay, the pools and spa were nice, the restaurant was OK and the hotel is convenient to town and the area's attractions. We would probably stay here again the next time we are in the area unless we were put in room 118.

Our room was a standard one but it was very good and the view out also covered the steam railway which pleased us both. We ate in the restaurant, were pleasantly surprised at the value and our food was fine. The breakfast room was large and the quality of the food was probably the best of our holiday. We would definitely stay here again.
