“Amazing and authentic German food. Worth a drive.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2012

Located in an operating old mining community hotel, this restaurant is a real winner. This is extremely popular year 'round, and no reservations are taken. Tried lunch, and waited about 20 minutes for a table. Waiting area is crowded, so sit at the bar. Restaurant tables are somewhat close together. Take all of this in stride, because the service and food are truly excellent. German immigrant family has prepared superb dishes for many years. Locals report dinner is even better. Bottom line: one of the best restaurants in the Black Hills region, and one of the best German restaurants anywhere.

“Outstanding German Fare”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2012

After reading so many reviews, we thought that next time we're in the Hill City area, we had to give the Alpine Inn a try for lunch. It almost didn't happen since parking is diabolical and once in, the wait area is cramped and confusing. Tables are almost on top of each other. I almost bolted before our name was called from the waiting list. BUT ... we are SO GLAD we stayed. Service excellent, the food from great to outstanding, and the potato salad like the best of New York or Pennsylvania (sorry Munich, you lose!) Try it, you'll like it. This is probably some of the best German cooking west of the Mississippi. We WILL be back, but never during the summer tourist season. Note that the lunch menu is varied while the dinner menu is primarily steaks.

“Keep It Simple”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Hold the options, and enjoy your steak & potato, with dinner salad. The place is a little crowded, and a bit noisy, but I seem to always come back.

“Well worth a meal if you're staying in Hill City”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 5, 2012

The Alpine Inn's claim to fame is its savory steaks. The price is real and the quality is fine (unlike Las Vegas cheap-but-mediocre), but plan ahead: the low price is partly because they take cash only.

We had maybe a 10-minute wait for a weekday lunch table. Service was attentive enough, and the meal enjoyable. Worth a drive if you're within maybe 15-20 minutes of Hill City.

“Beautiful house, great food.”

Excellent potato salad and cabbage. The food seems pretty authentic and i loved the bleu cheese salad dressing. Great service too.
