On the whole this was a very interesting place to stay. It's a very individual establishment so if you like chain hotels it will probably not be your favourite. Pros - rooms were spacious, breakfast relaxed and qood quality though a little limited in choice. My kids loved the ghost tour and the gunfights in the street outside the hotel. It's in the middle of the town so handy for bars and restaurants. Cons - staff at reception were a little grumpy, decor looked a little shabby in places.

We just got back home from a stay at the Bullock Hotel. This is a great location, right in the middle of main street. The breakfast lady in Bully's bar is the BEST & the food was very good as well. The rooms were above average. My sister-in-law won $165 on slot machines. The daily gun fight was held right out front in the street. Lotsa fun!

“Try their other property, The Branch House”

Bullock Hotel

After reading a review about the sister property of the Bullock Hotel, and seeing pictures, we decided to stay at the Branch House instead. It was a short two block walk onto Main Street (brightly lighted) and it was completely worth it! I loved it! It was very private and clean. It was only $52 for one night. It was decorated in mission style with very cool brick walls. The bed was comfortable and the room was dark and quiet. The shower and bathroom was very clean and very nice. The only tricky part is that you actually check in at the Bullock front desk. It took us a while to figure out how and where to check in. It's just a short walk across the street. You'll see it from the hotel. Upon check-in, they also gave us some discount coupons to use in the casino and for some free drinks. It was very unexpected. They also provided us with a parking pass to park in the parking lot directly behind the hotel. Granted, the parking lots was gravel, but it was free. We also had a small problem with the phone in the room not working, but after mentioning it to the front desk, they went right to work to resolve the issue. I would come back to Deadwood just to stay in this beautiful hotel room again!

We are on a long two-week road trip through SD, WY, MT, and are staying at all kinds of historical places - - so I was REALLY looking forward to staying at the Bullock! Especially since I've watched the series and everything on the hotel website makes it sound so great. I was really expecting to walk into our room and step back in time - but instead, the furnishings were much more modern than I expected. We stayed in #214 which is supposed to be one of the more haunted rooms, but looking at photos, I wish we had stayed at the Branch House instead... On a high note, the staff was very friendly and the lobby is really cool - but don't get too excited about your room - but maybe you'll have better luck than we did. Bully's wasn't serving dinner when we were there so we had to go up the street to some other place (can't remember the name) and it wasn't good at all. Overall our trip to Deadwood was disappointing and I'm so bummed about it.... We did get up to Mt. Moriah which was really cool and a must-do! We gambled a little too which was fun - paid off at first but then we put everything back in... :) Anyway, hope you have better luck than we did! If you do stay here, read the book that's in the lobby in front of the check-in desk - - very interesting ghostly tales!!!

“Wonderful and Haunted”

We stayed at the Bullock Hotel for two nights. I found the staff to be very friendly, helpful, and courteous. I loved the hotel for its beauty. Everything was wonderful. If you stay there, take a walk through the halls at any time of the day. They are absolutely haunting. I was even given a tour of Seth's Cellar which was closed at the time we stayed. It was an enchanting experience and I can't wait to return.
