“Nicest stay in Deadwood”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This hotel sits on a hill just outside of Deadwood. The hotel is only a few years old now. There is nothing that I can say bad about this place. The rooms are very tastefully decorated with mini-fridges in all rooms. The casino is very nice with plenty of space and the dealers are all very friendly. The sports bar and restaurant has very good food. If you want to go downtown, the free shuttle now makes regular trips and will take you downtown if you would like to see the more historic downtown.

We stayed at your place for a few days, again, and were thrilled to be there. Everyone went out of their way to make us all feel welcome and comfortable. My folks have a hard time getting around, but when we gambled, ate or just asked questions, we were treated very kindly. I thank you for that. Gambling was fun, even though we didn't win, but still it was fun! Your card dealers are the best. Always happy to see us and remember us. Can't wait to come back, thanks again for making it a fun trip for us.

My husband and I travel to Deadwood about four times a year, and count 15 different Motels we have stayed at during the last 20 years in Deadwood! This was our first time at the Lodge, and it is our new favorite place to stay. The room was beautiful, comfortable beds, quiet room and amazing meals at Oggies and Timberline. We were especially impressed with the half price nachos during happy hour. Convenient location and great views. The only improvement I would suggest is adding HBO or a premium channel to the TV in the room. We got a Sunday night special that included casino bucks, great bargain!

Room Tip: I don't like waiting for elevators, so I liked our second floor room. I could take the stairs.

Excellent property, rooms, food. Gambling sucked. As we shared our view on the way out, they said hey heard the same thing every day....even in the same order. Only had draft beer &house wine for free while gambling...everything has you had to pay for. Huh? Sort of a remote location. Had to take the trolley or drive your self if you wanted to go anywhere. Pool looked fun for the kids.

I am sorry to hear that you didn’t have much for luck in the casino. Thank you again for your comments and I hope that on your return visit to the Lodge you have much better luck.

We recently went to the Black Hills for a quick family get-away. We were only planning to stay one night at the Lodge, and then move to a location closer to Mt Rushmore area attractions. Our children (8,5,3) LOVED the hotel and pool so much that we decided to stay an extra night and just drive the extra hour back and forth to the Mt Rushmore area attractions. Worked out perfect because many of the attractions/parks close around 5 pm this time of year and when we returned to the hotel the boys could have an hour or two of pool play time. The pool was perfect for their age ranges - zero entry for the little one and lots for him to do and the two older boys liked the lily pad area that was a little deeper. They also played a lot of water basketball. The pool area was very clean. The family room (I think called double queen deluxe) was very spacious and clean. If the property is four years old, it shows little wear so far. We would definitely go back with our children and recommend to others.

Room Tip: The family room was worth the extra $$ and it was in the corner, near the elevators.

My husband and I have stayed in The Lodge at Deadwood well over 5 times and we will continue to stay here because we feel it is the best hotel in the area. It is not located in the center of Deadwood but is situated just outside of Deadwood, very short drive away....less then 5 minutes. The trolleys do travel to the hotel but will cost you a dollar each way. I love how this hotel is surrounded by evergreen trees and located half way up a hill. The smell of pine is just outside the hotel doors. The rooms have always been clean, the beds comfortable and the staff friendly. The Oggies food has always been great. We love to order their deep fried spicy pickles with their ranch dip. YUMMY!!!! They have a really nice pool area for kids.
There is so much to see and do in the area. Be sure to take a map that outlines all of the scenic drives in the area. (These maps are free at the front desk). If you have time in the area I would suggest you to take a drive to Needles HWY/Sylvin Lake in Custer State Park. (One of my favorites scenic drives in the area) Or I would also suggest to take I-90 east to the Badlands National Park.
Note: They DO NOT offer free breakfast but the Deadwood Grille serves breakfast, which is OK.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms are on the top floor located at the end of each hallway, by the end stairways. (No one...

The Lodge is beautiful and has a wonderful setting!
When checking in on Feb 24th 2013 we asked about any specials as I had seen a couple online. The front desk man and 2 gals were very happy to help us and to offer a suggestion that we should use the Sweetheart package as that would be the best value and we would get a bottle of Cooks champagne and two truffles and $25 in food coupons, each day of our 4 day stay for just a little more $$ per night. Right there they called housekeeping and I even saw the gals getting our champagne and truffles, then they were delivered to our room, put on ice. Wonderful! The man said he noted this so that housekeeping would know to do this every day.
The 2nd day, we returned to our room our 'treats' were not there so I called the front desk. The same man was working and soon our treats showed up. We were disappointed that we had to ask for them, but we did get them so we let it go. Beds were made but our glassware was left there, along with the towels used to wrap the ice bucket/champagne with.
3rd day...no treats again...new gal at the front desk was concerned and told us that they only do this for the first night of your stay...and had to call the manager. Not too long later, she showed up at our door with 2 truffles and a bottle of house chardonnay (?). When asked, she said this was all she was allowed to get? So we accepted that with the intention of getting it replaced in the morning with the Cooks champagne. Again, beds made but glassware again left.
Day 4- Again, no treats...this time we didnt even call, just determined that we would ask for the amount that we paid EXTRA to be removed when we checked out in the morning. And we did. We got $20 off of our one night.
We just think that 'special offers' need to better known by the front desk people. It was kinda of embarrassing to feel like we had to beg for what we paid for.
Ok, now we want to say, besides this particular issue, this place is amazing!!! We ate only in Oggies Grill but the breakfast was fantastic and served on a very hot plate so everything stayed heated while we enjoyed a relaxing breakfast and I had the best pizza ever for supper one night.
Husband liked his steak the first night but wasnt over the top about it, he did however rave about the potatoes and the rest of the meal. Then he tried the sirloin steak another night...That steak was not cooked enough (no way I could have even tried it), but again the rest was wonderful. I had bullbites..not so great...dried out and chewy, but they came with some sides that were great, thank goodness.
We had excellent service in the casino and the food areas here, no complaints at all. The waitresses in the casino were exceptionally attentive.
On our last morning we ordered room service for breakfast. My eggs were very slimy, when I ordered them over medium. But husband likes them that way so he ate them.
The Lodge is a beautiful place and has everything you need there and despite the things that happened, we do really like it!
