We spent one night here in July. It is now actually called the DeSmet Super Deluxe Inn. It happened to be a pageant weekend, but I never felt that the motel was overcrowded. They had a simple breakfast, but it was more than enough to fill us up. I did have to ask them to refill the plain bagels, which they did immediately, and also took care of anything else that needed refilling at the same time. It was not a huge breakfast area, but I had no problem getting a table. They gave us a coupon for a free soda at a restaurant at the local golf course. The room was clean, they gave us all the extra pillows we needed, and it was very quiet. I don't believe there are a lot of accommodations to choose from in De Smet, but this motel certainly doesn't slack off because of that. I would happily stay here again.

We were just travelling by and saw this neat motel in a very small town. We were early goose season and they had free kennells and game cleaning. Very nice people running it. They even had free swim suits to use. I think they have thought of everything to make your stay very nice. My dad said we are going back in the summer to do the Laura Ingalls Wilder things with our family. This time I am bringing my own suit. They said they were Super 8, but now they are De Smet Super Deluxe Inn and Suites. What ever they are we liked it and are going back. It even smelled good inside. They gave us free coupons to go out to dinner for a drink and the food was delicious. Try the baby back ribs. they were yummy. The next night we ordered in Pizza, that was good too. We could check out the VCR tapes for free. I hope you go there sometime. My Mom said that was not usually where dad stayed. And maybe she will go with us next year.

We stayed at this motel during one of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant weekends in July, 2005 on a Sunday night. If you plan to stay here during a pageant weekend, be sure to get reservations very early in the spring; they do fill up and walkups are typically turned away.

The motel is very nice, but pricey. They are one of the only motels in town, and a drive back to the interstate after the pageant is nearly 70 miles, so I'm sure they take advantage. We stayed here only one night after the pageant performance, but the stay was pleasant. Room was nice, clean, and had an adequate number of towels. Beds were a little soft for my taste, but I sleep on a rock-hard one at home.

Limited resturants are found in DeSmet, so don't expect much choice in food services nearby. This is still a very small town, and LIW is the only reason it's even on the map, but it's cute and cozy.

Expecting a high price, I'd recommend a stay at this motel unless you want to drive back to Mitchell.
