“Edisto River canoe and kayak trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2012

The Park Ranger and the crew with the Canoe & Kayak Commission are the best people in the world. If you have never gone down this river than you have to hook up with them. The whole weekend, which is an annual event in early June, is a blast. I have done it for four years.
You are safe, having fun, and well fed if you do the whole package.

“Great park but check the weather forecast”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2010

In an effort to save money and have a little adventure we stopped by this state park to camp on a roadtrip from Maryland to Florida. When we arrived to the park we were pleasantly greeted by the park ranger. The fee to camp was reasonable, around $17. The park had water access for kayaks and canoes but beware a 9 foot rattlesnake was caught within miles of the 35 acre campground. We were skeptical about camping because we had driven through thunderstorms and heavy rain throughout the day but we decided to try anyway. The park ranger informed us that there were sand palettes out for us to set our tent upon. After setting up camp and collecting firewood we started our fire to enjoy our s'mores (bring s'mores supplies from home a s'mores pack there will run you about $15) and it began to rain. We hid in our tent to experience the most intense thunderstorm with heavy rain and wind only to discover that the wonderful sand palette held water! By the time we made numerous rain soaked trips to the car our tent practically floated away. Colleton State Park was pretty but if you will be staying in a tent I recommend that you check the weather forecast before.
