“Civil War History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2013

A great place to stop in the summer. Why? It is cool in the tunnel. This tunnel was started before the civil war started. It was to be a passage to Tennessee. It was stopped when the war started. There are three tunnels in this group. My understanding is that one has caved in and the other end of this one is under a small lake just up the road . Located in Sumter National Park, it is run by the City of Walhalla, SC. Isaqueena Falls is located in this part also. Well worth the time to stop and see this great tunnel and falls.

“Stumphouse Mountain Tunnel”

Absolutely incredible place. Not knowing it was there we weren't prepared with a flashlight. Next time we will bring one and go in all the way. The water dripping off the roof and the coolness was very refreshing.

“History and Darkness”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2013

It has some good history, but the tunnel itself is dark and wet when it rains. it is an incomplete railroad tunnel for the Blue Ridge Railroad of South Carolina in Sumter National Forest. This is now a Walhalla park which also features nearby Isaqueena Falls. It is really a shame that someone today doesn't just build that tunnel straight though the mountains all the way to Knoxville... Although, I think the final destination was to be and Ohio railroad.

“Interesting History”

This is a rather unique historic stop. The tunnel went unfinished due to the beginning of the Civil War.

“Best place to climb!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

Had a great time in the tunnel and climbing on top! What a best kept secret! We loved it! A great place to take a group and learn the history of the tunnel and Wahalla and surrounding areas.
