“Beautiful B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 26, 2014

If you're passing through Union or are in the area, I would recommend this B&B. Interesting history, beautiful building, rooms are great and some unexpected surprises. Breakfast was also really nice. Overall, I had a really enjoyable stay.

My husband and I spent a week at the Nicholson Mansion. It is without a doubt one of the best
bed and breakfasts we have ever booked. We went to the SC upcountry to consider this area
for future relocation, Even though the mansion is somewhat isolated, it is well worth the extra driving.
Lynne and Patrick warmly welcomed us. Our suite had a spacious bedroom with a very comfy bed and a lovely sitting area. Lynne carefully and with great love, restored this home to its former elegance. The downstairs common rooms were beautifully appointed. Breakfasts, which were prepared by Lynne or her delightful assistant Carl, were simply wonderful. In the late afternoon, we had wine with Lynne and her veterinarian husband Patrick. They also have
several friendly resident pets to enjoy'
If you are looking for gracious surroundings , lovely accommodations and wonderful hosts do consider the Nicholson Mansion.

My husband and I enjoy our visit at this elegant home so much that I decided to write a book about the home and its history.

The owners are wonderful friendly people. Very relaxing and fit for a queen and king. Beautiful decor, excellent food and the service was perfect.

You will enjoy your stay and be back many times.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Nicholson Mansion. Our hosts were very friendly and informative about the house and they allowed us to wander around and see the grounds and all their pets--including a serval! The Mansion has been very tastefully remodeled and even includes some of the original pieces and decor that the owners were able to find at different auctions. We stayed in the Nicholson Room instead of one of the suites and we found it to be quite spacious and comfortable. We really enjoyed the mansion and would recommend it highly to others with one word of caution: they love pets! (so if you are allergic or nervous by lots of pets around, this is not the place for you).

We traveled to Union, SC as a part of our survey of Southern American Revolution Battlefields, and found this gem of an Inn in Union SC. Our suite was huge and beautifully appointed, with a Florida-type sitting room and a luxurious bath with all the amenities. The grounds were expansive and beautifully maintained, and we thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the large stone gazebo on the grounds. The Inn is pet friendly, and our golden retriever enjoyed roaming the grounds, which are populated by the resident pets as well. Breakfasts were delicious and more than enough to last the entire day. This place exudes elegance and good taste, and was the most relaxing and friendly accommodation throughout our entire trip. We highly recommend this for all travelers, and would definitely stay here again!

Room Tip: Brandon Suite, definitely!

We were the only guests when we stayed at Nicholson and had the Brandon Suite. We arrived after a long day of driving and were immediately greeted by Tristan, who is one of the most friendly dogs I've ever met. While Lynn gave the tour, he led the way through the house, occasionally bounding back to make sure we're keeping up. The mansion was decorated for Christmas in beautiful fashion, with numerous decorated trees, nativity settings, and other decorations.

What really separated Nicholson from other B&Bs were the animals. Tristan and Rosie run the house, though Rosie takes time to warm up to you. Consider yourself fortunate if she's begging for attention by the next day. There is also a hyacinth macaw, some other dogs, roosters, chickens, cats, and even a serval. My wife has mild allergies to pet dander and we usually travel with an air purifier, but I forgot it on this trip. Still, she had absolutely no issues with any of the animals. Lynn does a great job of keeping the place clean and the animals well groomed.

In the morning, I spent some time walking the grounds, which are beautiful. The gazebo is very nice and everything is incredibly picturesque. Breakfast was at 9:00 am and very good. Lynn's pancakes are not to be missed. Patrick joined us for breakfast as well and had a number of stories about how they came to start a B&B. They mentioned that before opening Nicholson, they had visited many other B&Bs and made notes of what the liked and didn't like, and I'd say their taste agrees with ours very well. They really took the best aspects of the B&B culture and incorporated it into their location.

One warning I would give, Union is far from a booming metropolis. While Nicholson is immaculate, if you need to get dinner, the nearest restaurant the owners recommended is about 30 minutes away. There is a nice little Mexican place in town, but if you're spending more than a day there, I'd advise either being willing to drive a bit for meals or making arrangements with Lynn to eat other meals at the mansion as well.

Room Tip: The Brandon Suite was a great room. Spacious with a lovely private sitting room that is great in the...

A spur of the moment motorcycle trip through the Olde English district of South Carolina was made unforgettable by my surprising stay at the Nicholson Mansion. Not only was I a "biker", but it was off-season, mid-week, no reservation, and apparently the ONLY guest requesting a room for the night. It would have been very understandable for the owners to suggest some other (i.e. "boring") lodging in town. Not so with Lynn and Patrick, however. I was welcomed with a smile and treated like... well, the only guest. I recommend this amazing mansion to all my fellow motorcyclists looking for the rare or historic, out-of-the-norm nightly abode. Oh, and don't get me started on the incredible breakfast quiche and strawberry soup... I still have tears in my eyes.

Room Tip: If you are allergic to cats or dogs or cockatoos, let them know. Also, rooms are limited so reserva...
