“Just ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Went the second week of Sept..The resort itself was good..The grounds were maintained really nice.. The rooms were ok but felt we were in a motel room....The tub was a hot tub and it is was hard to get in and out. We asked for a handicapped room too, but we dealt with it. Room had a vcr in it..Not sure who uses them anymore...resort was close to beach but we did not use the shuttle to get to the beach as it was not to far..

We came as a timeshare trade with family members who own a time share. Right off the bat, the room was not what we expected, but was likely an issue with the timeshare agency (REI) and not the hotel. It was described as sleeps 4, 2 private, so we thought that there would be a separate bedroom and a foldout couch. Not so. The fold out couch was right next to the King sized bed. AWKWARD. Anyway, we made do. The room was clean, the kitchen serviceable. A nice touch is that there is a washer and dryer in the room so you can keep up with laundry and not take home a bunch, or dry towels. You are given 4 towels for the beach and 4 for showering per room and they cannot exchange them or get additional ones without a fee, so the washer/dryer is a must. If you are coming by car, bring your own beach towels as the provided beach towels are small. Besides the room configuration, our biggest problem was that the key cards kept not working. They warned us to keep them away from cell phones and credit cards, but I guess we didn't do a very good job.

Both the indoor and outdoor pools were nice. We participated in a couple activities (water aerobics and yoga) and enjoyed them both. The staff upon check in was very helpful to the guys about where to golf. We did not check out the lazy river since we didn't have any kids with us.

Getting to the beach was a quick drive and the beach was well kept and had a lifeguard. There is a shuttle provided by the resort, but we found the times inconvenient and then worried what would happen if it rained, or we missed the last bus.

Overall, this was a nice place to stay that met our needs. The cleanliness cannot be beat!

Suites accommodate large families which is nice if anyone has a large family knows this can be a challenge at other places. Pool area and lazy river are nice, the kids love it. It is a short drive to the beach which can be a hassle with parking and loading everything up. I like to golf so enjoyed it when there was a golf course (Deer Track) on site but it closed. All in all not a bad place to stay.

We arrived in the resort in the wee hours of the morning ( advised them beforehand) and we were just lucky to saw the security car as we are coming in the resort. There was no security person in the office. You see, the office is at King's highway and the resort is a drive towards the back. Can be tricky when you arrive at 3-4 am but the little direction signs help ( if you see them at night). When we were checked in, nothing was offered to us- like maps (except map of the resort), nor tickets, discounts (like we usually get as RCI owners) or even breakfast ( with no timeshare presentation)... Just breakfast!
I had an RCi points exchange and we were given a first floor ( which we like bec I have my mom and a 3 yr old). The 2 bedroom was well furnished, the decors were just enough, both rooms had TV (but the other room has a VHS player? c'mon now, time to dump it I believe!). The tiny kitchen is tiny but everything works well. ( i have to buy a nice chopping knife at Kroger's for our meat). There was a washer and dryer and cleaning supplies are complete too. It was a quiet week, no security issue even though our back opens up to a big open area in the back ( does it used to be a golf area?) and connects (quite a distance though ) to the next community. The only bad thing was, being in the first floor, the steps and noises fr above filters in. We can hear their kids' running at 2-3 am!!!
The lazy pond we used once, the fitness area closes at 9 pm so we never got a chance to use it, the Internet was, YES, HORRIBLE! They need to upgrade it really! In this time and age, it seemed like theirs was a dial up! You can get a good signal by using your computer at 2 am ( I have online assignments I have to submit! ) but that is not always the case. It's a case of try-your-luck wifi connection!
Yes, the beach is a little drive. Surfside beach charges $1/hr, myrtle beach will have fr $5-10 parking depending on how close you are to the boardwalk. The shuttle we never used though.
Will I come back? Probably yes, probably no. We had good stay but can have better more.

My family and I just checked in today. We made the trip from MI. We didn't think that the room was going to look as great as it does. A few people said that the room was small, but I didn't think so. I came here with five other people and we all fit in just fine. The rooms are clean, no ants or any type of bugs were in our room. We stayed in the bldg 213. If you booked your room through Expedia.com, it says on their website that you can get a king size bed and two double bags. Truth is, you get a queen size and two double. You have to be careful when booking this room through Expedia, because when we made our reservations, we first asked for a two bedroom and told them that that was what we needed. They booked us for one bedroom and there was five of us staying in the room.Long story short, my husband called about 3 hours before we arrived and we were told that we were getting a queen sized bed with two twins. My husband told him that he didn't want the two twin beds in the second bedroom and asked if they could change our room to the double sized beds in the second bedroom. They changed our reservation to our room. We talked to a guy named Scott. We are currently staying at this resort, and we are enjoying every bit of it.

The check in was easy and we were given coupons and there is the free WiFi that the resort offers. Now some people say that there is a hidden fee for cleaning that they don't tell you about. This fee only occurs if you stay less than 7 days. We are staying 8, so our cleaning fee is included in our price. Don't believe every review that is on here that states there is a hidden fee for cleaning. I repeat if you are staying less than 7 days, you will be charged the cleaning fee. If you are staying more than 7 days you will NOT be charged. We asked this before we checked in. So you just have to stay for at least 7 days. Other than that, the place is great. On the refrigarator, they have a list of activities that the resort does on a daily basis.

Room Tip: Don't book through Expedia, they will steer you wrong....

Although it was not on the beach it didn't matter...it actually felt like a REAL resort, unlike what I'm used to in Myrtle Beach. There were activity pools, a nice gym, a shuttle for the beach (which was actually dependable), the villas felt like actual homes. Had a great time and would definitely go again!

I was concerned reading these reviews but our family LOVED our stay. Two bedroom room had a huge king bed in the master bedroom and two full beds in the other, great if your kids don't want to sleep together. Tim checked us in, gave lots of information about local activities, maps to get around town, free passes to the local state park, etc. he treated us like royalty! The suite was very large, kitchen appliances all worked great, washer and dryer in your room, all was wonderful.

You do have to drive to the beach or take a shuttle. We drove and parked all day for $6 right on the beach. Local food was good, plenty of beach shops, everyone was very friendly. We would come back again!
