We visited Ryan's on a weeknight recently. It was our second time dining there.
There is a wide variety of food to choose from. Most of the southern staples are there, from seasoned collards to mac and cheese, but the selection is by no means limited to that. There was a nice salad bar, with assorted varieties of lettuce and a decent number of toppings. In addition, they had a carving station with roast beef and ham, and a grilling station featuring steak. And, of course, a dessert bar.
The food is good quality, and was constantly being replenished by friendly staff. The table service was excellent, with dirty plates removed and drinks refilled promptly. During our dinner, the manager came to our table to make sure that we were satisfied with food and service.
Ryan's is not trying to be a gourmet restaurant. But I think that they succeed in what they are trying to be: a family-style, casual buffet with good food. If you go there with that expectation, you will probably like it.
