Our extended family of 16 people drove over to Sullivan's Island from IOP last Friday for lunch at Poe's. Although we called ahead and arrived on time, the staff had given our tables away. The staff was rude and we decided to go elsewhere. In checking with Taco Mamacita, they could handle our group inside or on the patio immediately. What a pleasant surprise! They're a “Fresh-Mex” restaurant specializing in funky-fusion tacos, enchilladas, Peruvian chicken, fresh made guacamole and amazing margaritas! We had family members ranging in age from 2 - 78 and everyone found menu choices to make them happy. We tried several appetizer samplers and the salsa verde and homemade guacamole with chips were all-around hits. The overwhelming favorite entree for most of us was 2 tacos (from a choice of many options) and a side. I opted for the carnita taco and mahi taco along with Mexican street corn. The carnita taco was the best I've ever eaten and the street corn was delicioso! Corn on the cob with chipotle and parmesan cheese ... I can only hope to replicate this at home. It started raining, then a downpour while we were eating and our server couldn't have been more attentive or helpful in offering to move our entire clan inside. We opted to stick it out and watch the streets start to flood. I believe our server's name was Allison - was helpful with selections, attentive to drink and chips refills and to all our needs, even offering to bring out towels to dry us off! Sometimes things happen for a reason. I believe we had a better experience at Taco Mamacita than we would have had at Poe's Tavern. Good choice! Would love to return someday!
