We usually eat at Bistro 217 every time we visit our condo at True Blue in Pawleys Island and have never been disappointed and consider this restaurant one of our favorites. We were disapointed during our most recent visit 3 weeks ago in both the service and the quality of the food. First of all, our server seemed robotic in quoting the specials and in attending to our needs. We asked that the total bill for 4 couples be split 4 ways evenly so that we each could place the meal on our individual credits cards and this was never done, I had to question the pour of the martini's as glasses were just over half filled. At least the charge for these small martini's was $7.50 instead of the common $10/$11 other places charge for normal size drinks. Other than the servers bringing the food, we rarely were attended to by our waiter which was never the case in the past.
The horseradish crusted pork tenderloin schnitzel was basically 2 thin patties that were like hockey pucks with an uninspiring dijon cream sauce. When I mentioned this to our waiter that I was very disapoointed, his answer was that the chef was looking to take this item "off the menu" which was of little consolation to me. I do not recall ever leaving half the food on my plate when spending $28 for an entree'. The She crab soup was average with very little evidence of lump crabmeat and 4 of the 8 people in our party were not impressed with the braised short rib.
My friends loved the pear salad. I had a taste of the drum fish special. The fish was moist and tender, but bland to the taste. This place has wowed us in the past but we will now question whether or not to visit again since there are so many other choices in this area.
In short, everything that we loved in our prior visits were disapointments this time around. Too bad...
