My daughter (a beginner) and I (a mediocre player for years) just completed the 3-day school. I recently attended another golf school with my son, which was a good school, but I found Ritson-Sole (RS) to be an even more enjoyable and rewarding experience for a couple of reasons. One, at RS you have the same instructor for all three days (rather than different instructors for different types of shots). I found the single instructor approach to be a big plus. The continuity of having the same instructor is more effective because the instructor learns your swing once and knows what you are working on for each type of shot. Even though the instructor-student ratio is 1-4, it is almost like a private lesson. Two, at RS the instructor conducts daily one-on-one discussions of a video analysis of each type of shot you executed that day, from putting to driving, rather than analysis of just a couple of shot types. Overall, I felt it was a very personal approach.
Pat Hofmann was our instructor. I liked that he discussed the mental side, rather than just the mechanics. He talked about what comes before and after the shot, not just the shot itself. Pat explained the fundamentals of each shot type and then worked with your swing to implement the fundamentals, rather than trying to make radical changes to conform to a rigid ideal. He was patient with my daughter, stressing that everything takes time, which prevented her from becoming frustrated or discouraged, while building her confidence. The adjustments that Pat made to each of my shot types made a tremendous positive difference.
All-in-all, the three days were fun and rewarding thanks to Pat and to the Ritson-Sole approach.
