“Decent place to stay on the cheap”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2012

Our room was clean and the owner was friendly. We were allowed to leave our car parked at the motel after the 10:30 checkout so we could enjoy the beach some more. If all you want is a clean motel room close to the beach that costs much less than the big resorts, then High Tide is a good choice.

Booked a room to be close to family that was staying at the Wyndham next door. It is an older motel with some wear and tear (some would call it a "patina"), but if you can get beyond that it is a fine place to stay at the beach. (Those who are used to modern hotel chains or 4-star hotel experiences would not be happy, so if you have those types of people with you, they should stay elsewhere.)

An easy walk to the beach and Main Street in a remarkably quiet area. Other guests included families and a group of guys on a fishing trip. The owner is very friendly and helpful.

I highly recommend that you do NOT stay here. It was dirty on the out side with black and green mold around the windows. Looked run down. Could only imagine what it would be like on the inside.
I called on Friday and spoke with a man. Explained that we would be arriving Saturday at 4:30p and would need to check in quickly to make our appointment at 5:30. I get to the hotel and no one is in the office. I call the number on the door. No one answered. No note on the door. No way to contact them. Stood outside 30 min waiting on someone to come. And no one ever did. So they are unreliable and untrustworthy. I mean how hard is it to leave a note on the door and a cell number, so people are not left there wondering. Then it took 30 min to find somewhere else to stay. Maybe God knew we would not be happy there. I will never go back there.

Room Tip: I would NOT stay at this DUMP.

The High Tide was great for a night on our travels in February. It is a throwback to days gone by - a simple 2 story structure with good size rooms with a small equipped kitchen. I think it would be a good spot to do Myrtle Beach 'on the cheap'. You could cook meals in when you wanted and room prices are very reasonable. Norris at the front desk was very helpful as concierge, pointing out good spots for dinner and breakfast.
If you're a whiner who expects $300 rooms at $50 prices, go somewhere else. Yes, the curtains and carpets aren't new, but our room was clean, bed was comfortable, and it was quiet.

I have no idea how this hotel got such a good rating. It was not the worst place I have ever stayed but not great at all. There was mold in the bathroom on the ceiling and in the grout. The tile was cracked in the shower area and the faucet was sticking out and had about an inch of clear silicone on it. There was a big crack at the bottom of the door. The heating/cooling unit is over top of the fridge and never shut off. It ran all the time unless you wanted to manually turn it on and off. It was a cheap place to stay. We paid $50 a night including our taxes. This was late Feb. so it was probably a deal. If you wanted to cook you could but we did not use the stove or microwave. There is no pool here if that is important to you.

Stayed here because of Trip Advisor ratings and most proved true. Ecnomical, clean, but most of all very quaint; like going back many years. Safe, just across the street from the beach. The host will make you fill quite at home, showing you to your room and he is always available to answer any questions. He was also our source for finding a really great restaurant (Snooky's) that we can't wait to visit again.

It is not a high rise and does not have all the modern ammenities, but you get your money's worth.

Room Tip: Offers a varieity of room combinations

I have been staying at the High Tide Motel over 10 years. There is NO other place I would rather be! It is clean, good rates, Norris the manager is a sweet heart and across the street from the beach. If you go to the beach to be at the beach it is for you. I would rather stay here than any other place, don't need a hot tub in my room or a heated pool. I can stay in Atlanta (at home) and get that. JUST A CLEAN ROOM AND THE BEACH! You can get a room, efficiency or a 2 bedroom apt. Then you have money left to walk to great restaurants or bars and enjoy the beach. You will never go wrong with the High Tide Motel and its owner Tom Leeper! The best North Myrtle Beach has to offer!!!!!! Can't wait to see you next year!

Room Tip: All the rooms are great.
