“Where is the POOL?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2007

We've been to the beach dozens of times and usually rent a condo but decided for just 2 of us to try the Avista resort hotel. The room was small but clean however almost stark in appearance. Concrete wallls, very plain, small furniture but adequate overall. However, we had to ask to check out once we discovered it was impossible to get near the pools. They have several very little pools all clustered together with bridges and things and a loud DJ yelling there but noplace to sit on a busy weekday much less the weekend. I mean NOPLACE! Chairs are squeezed together as tight as possible near the pools and the beach areas near the pool but its just a zoo. Much of it is a lazy river which you can usually get into if you want to get wet indoors but if you are going to the beach with any thought of EVER relaxing near the pool DON"T STAY at AVISTA!
The staff accomodate a move to the Grande Shores adequately but not easily and that place has a great pool but oh my gosh....what a rip off for a dingy older building at the price we paid. There were HUNDREDS..maybe thousands of children in the Avista hotel. I love kids but it was like where did so many preteens come from. Some of the kids looked like they were having fun. Not a place for adults to go relax.

We stayed in a 3 bedroom corner condo, seventeenth floor, and loved it. I can still see the ocean from our living room, or from the balcony. I can still feel sleep settling over me as we drifted off with the balcony doors open. And of course, don't forget the sunrise.
The room itself was great. It was clean and spacious, meeting all of our needs. The hotel itself was very quiet and well kept. The front desk staff was helpful. As for the beach, we truly enjoyed it.

Our first journey into Myrtle Beach area. Researched several sites and was at first going to go to Ocean Isle Beach - but VERY happy that we did not because on return trip we inspected Ocean Isle and found it to be desolate and uninspiring with few or no vacation facilities available.

Opted for Avista after comparing amenities with several "resorts" (Prince, Bay Watch, etc). While trying to decide we received email "special"offer for last minute oceanfront double mini-suite at Avista for $44/night + resort fee and taxes, so we grabbed it.

Arrival was October 21 for four nights. EVERY member of resort staff from check-in desk to restaurant servers, housekeeping (who responded within 10 minutes to request for new unbrokewn coffee pot), etc. was courteous, solictious of our satisfaction and professional. A real joy and a place we will be eager to return to. We (the Mrs. and I) have no business or family relationships with Avista, its owners or managers.

Spent one week at the Avista, rented a one bedroom condo for only $45 per night (it's off season). The room was as clean as a whistle. 2 TVs, a beautiful bath, washer/dryer and dishwasher. Kitchen was small but had no problems. Balcony looked over the ocean and pools. Parking was convienent in their garage and always someone to help with your luggage if you needed it.
House keeping was excellent, the room was cleaned daily, and I'm a clean freak and was very pleased. Everything was in good repair, no problems at all. Staff was friendly and helpful. No complaints! Will visit again next year!

  • Liked — Cleanliness, location.
  • Disliked — Washer Dryer and Dishwasher could have had a bit faster cycle, took awhile to complete a load

We stayed for 2 nights just recently and loved the place. We had an oceanfront 1 bedroom suite. The place was immaculate and the staff were very helpful and friendly. We went to the lounge one evening and the bartender was extremely pleasant. Ate breakfast in the restaurant. The breakfast buffet was very good. The grounds of the hotel were well taken care of. Great time of year to go, not crowded, and you get a great room for a great price!

I booked both myself and a cousin a 1 bedroom condo at this facility.
It was absolutely the best vacation our family had. We have two teenagers and there was plenty of room for everyone to spread out. The view was great, the people at the hotel were helpful, and the pools were clean. I recommend this to anyone with or without a family. Great away from the hassle and old hotels at Myrtle Beach.
