The old adage says, “You get what you pay for,” and the Hampton Inn – North Myrtle Beach proves once again that the outcome rarely turn out otherwise. We stayed one night at the NMB Hampton in early April 2013, and we selected it due to the highly competitive cost for a night. I guess we should have known from the room rate what to expect. Anyway, our room was “ready” on arrival, but it was short three bath towels, two hand towels, and a washcloth. Approximately 4 hours and three queries later, we received the missing bath items. The room itself had seen a lot of use – the door and full-length mirror common to standard Hampton Inn rooms such as ours had been removed from the closet, the hangers had disappeared, too, and the door track was, well, filthy. The bed linens had rust stains – at least we hoped it was rust. Obtaining hot water in the bathroom sink took forever, even when assisted by the tub faucet, and in the shower, water temperature control fluctuated annoyingly. The room had no microwave or refrigerator. The facility did offer a coin operated laundry for guests, which was a bargain at $1 per load for both washers and dryers; one of the dryers was out of order and neither washer nor dryer had a timer to help users so it did not come as a surprise that both washer had reached the end of their cleaning cycles but were sitting idle and full of wet clothes. The fitness facility provided free weights/bench and aerobic workout equipment, pretty low-end stuff, squeaky, but all in working order. The complementary breakfast provided the basic Hampton Inn items; missing were some of the hot cereal items and the usual “fresh” fruit salad; it was adequate with no extras but without notable shortcomings. This Hampton Inn is definitely not a 3-, or 2.5-star property. Best attribute of the property: the attitude of the staff members handling the breakfast - friendly, prompt, courteous.
