I needed to be in downtown Charleston for business meetings Monday, but flight options dictated a Saturday arrival so I searched for a hotel near the airport. I chose this one, honestly, because of price. You know the saying "you get what you pay for"? Even though it was a bargain rate, I still don't think I got everything I paid for.
I went to check in. The front lobby also serves as a UPS store. The woman behind the counter acted as if I was disturbing her by checking in.
The Inn is basically a motor lodge. There is a large parking lot surrounding the hotel. I was so fortunate to have a ground floor room. Ever car door opening and closing, every rude and inconsiderate guest shouting to friends at two in the morning, every Rap song blasted through the night, every footstep (and head board banging) in the rooms on all sides and above, etc., there must be zero sound-proofing because I heard it all.
The room is nothing special. But I have traveled the globe and feel that all I need is a clean bed and a shower. I was hesitant to use the bed - it seriously looked old and dirty. The shower worked so that was good. But I think they hired third-graders to do the construction and painting. It is evident that at one time they switched bathroom tiles….except for those along the tow sides of the bathtub. Looks like they decided to leave those old and non-matching bits. My four year old daughter can color within the lines better than whoever they used to paint. The wall colors ran up onto the ceiling, the ceiling colors ran down onto the wall, and there were drops of paint on the wall and floor that the painters decided to just leave there. The chrome hardware on the bathroom door has primer all over it. OK - I got my shower (and hot water) but a little pride in presentation sure would be nice.
After a very noisy and broken sleep I was happy to check-out (a bit earlier check-out time there: 11:00). Again, the front desk help seemed less than friendly at first - but she soon warmed up and even managed to smile and laugh.
