“place needs to be renovated!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2007

My friend and I stayed there last week after booking on hotwire. The price was decent and we were nervous about the accomodations. We encountered a nice and friendly staff but the "resort" could use a lot of renovations. We were supposed to have a condo but all we got was a room with a small refrigerator (but that's not their fault because we didn't say anything about not getting a condo). The elevators either made odd noises or you felt like you were going to get stuck in them (which my friend did for about 15 minutes and we found out that the elevators hadn't been inspected since 2004). The safety bar in the shower wasn't fully attached and the sink faucet looked like it needed to be replaced (it looked loose also). The jacuzzi or hot tub (located near the pool) also had loose rails and the computers in the business center didn't work properly 75% of the time. But luckily the place was clean so it wasn't a roach motel (which made us very happy). I doubt we would stay there again but we loved the beach and had a good time otherwise.

My husband and I have just returned from a one month vacation at the Ocean Park Resort. Before the vacation, I had read several reviews and was somewhat anxious about having reserved there. We arrived there mid february and registration was efficient and courteous. Our unit # 908 was disappointing though. While we had a superb ocean view (this is what we enjoyed most), the furniture , appliances and carpet were very old and worn out. The hotel was renovating the 3 units next to us- NOISY. It would have been nice to be assigned a more quiet area, especially for the long term stay. They were painting and replacing some flooring but not the furniture. We visited other units and they were all alike. Several things did not work in our units: TV, toaster, dining chair, hard mattress etc.. but all problems were taken care off as best as possible. We made due with what we had and made the unit our own. (candles, tablecloths, pictures flowers etc...) We had brought sheets and so we covered the torn sofa and I purchased my own broom to sweep the floors daily. The maid emptied the trash and changed the towels daily, and changed the bed linen and sometimes vacuumed weekly. A few times I asked to use the vacuum and did it myself. The elevators need to be replaced- very slow, The staff was very polite and friendly and they worked with what they had. We so enjoyed the outdoor spa but again it needed daily maintenance and so did the inside pool area. In the entire stay we saw the outdoor spa cleaned once. However it was nice to have indoor spa and pool for the cool days. We were situated close to many restaurants and shopping and golf. The hotel was generally quiet- there were a few nights where spring breakers were rowdy. While in town, we visited other resorts to compare same type unit for our money and found several that were newer and more updated. We would recommend The Boardwalk- main tower corner units, The M Grand, The Paradise. Also, there was so much vacancy in February, that we found unnecessary to have booked ahead. March may be different. We had booked with Patricia.com. Better rates if you book directly with the hotel. While we were disappointed with the condition of the hotel, we thoroughly focused on the positive and and the privilege to live such a vacation. I am merely reviewing the hotel accommodation. The rest was great.
ps. We stayed a couple of extra days due to snow storms up north and they accommodated us kindly with the same monthly rates. Great...

After reading some of the reviews, I was scared to stay here. However, it was an average, pleasant experience. The hotel staff were pleasant, though not really excited to be there. (Who can blame them?) The room was okay. It had a little kitchen. But the refrigerator was stained on the outside, and the bathtub floor was a little sketchy. The beds were sort of hard, the TV was old, but it didnt hinder our stay. The ocean view was worth it. I had a few drinks while looking out over the ocean from the 9th floor. Just beautiful. The hotel was quiet and didnt have any problems with any of the clientele, even though they seemed a little on the "thug" side.

I enjoyed the one night I stayed at the Ocean Park, but I would probably stay somewhere nicer next time. And DONT BOOK on Expedia, they charge a RIDICULOUS resort fee.

I stay here every year and enjoy my stay every time. The staff is always friendly and personable. It has an indoor heated pool that is nice during the colder months. The facility had some wear and tear in the past but there have been some improvements this year. I like the garage parking when its raining outside. The ocean view from the balcony is breathtaking.

If the staff wasn't ignoring you, they were rude. Not only did I have to wait an extra 3 hours to check into my room, the floor was wet and the furniture was broken INSIDE AND OUTSIDE.The ammenities were nice, but the staff has got to go!!

We have stayed at this place several times in past years for our family get togethers, but never again. DO NOT BELEIVE THE PICTURES ON THE INTERNET OR THE BROCURE. Our extended family had 5 room reserved for the weekend, none of the rooms were clean. Our "non-smoking" rooms reeked of smoke so bad that we had to keep the doors open the entire time. the balconies that still had carpet on them were moldy and ripped up. Carpet in the rooms was ripped and torn in places. The microwave did not work in our room, The washer did not work in another room. Elevators kept breaking down. When they did work you had to wait forever for it to eventually get to your floor. The paint was peeling off the ceiling in big chunks in two of the rooms. The tv in our room was very old and only a couple of the buttons on the remote worked. When we got to our room the bathroom had not been cleaned and the toilet had been used and never flushed. We had to wash the bed sheets when we got there because they smelled so bad of smoke. The floors had not been vaccumed. The bathrooms were very small dark and dingy. Only in some of the rooms did the air conditioner work. In our room, the air condidioner worked but we could not use it because it smelled of urine. When we complained to the front desk about the above problems they didn't seem to care at all. We watched the "maid" clean our room one day; it was pathetic at best. The best part of the trip though was watching the drug dealers working on the sidewalk out front. While we were at Myrtle Beach we found the place where we will be staying from now on. The Grand Atlantic Resort. We went and looked at this hotel and it is new, clean, and very nice; this is where we will be staying next year.

Dont let the name fool you, this is no resort. I met some friends from Va, I'm from La. and was told that they only allowed one vehicle per room. That would be fine, but they had no lot for you to park any extra vehicle, which meant you were on your own trying to park your vehicle somewhere safe. And I dont know if I would call it a kitchen!! How many people do you know that travel on vacation with pots, pans and dishware? Well if you stay here you need to have those things because the one we had didnt have any!! All of this for over $600..What a rip off...
