“The place to stay for golfers”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 31, 2006

We were a large group of 48 from New Brunswick Canada that went to Myrtle Beach for a week of golf. We arrived late and tired on a Saturday night after 27 hours on the bus. We were very pleased and impressed that in less then half an hour we were all settled in to our rooms. Our stay was flawless and I give credit to the hotel and its staff to be able to accomadate such a large group without a hitch. The 12 hotel rooms (3 bedroom suites) we had were among the biggest and most well equiped suites I have ever rented. The price was excellent and service was good. The all you could eat hot breakfast was a great way to start the day before hitting the golf courses. There are restaurants and shopping within walking distance of the hotel. There is even a driving range and par 3 golf course 3 blocks away. This hotel made our dream golf vacation a trip to remember and we heard no complaints from the entire group. We maybe planning another trip this year and are sure to be staying at the same resort. Hats off to the mangement and staff of the Ocean Reef Resort for making this trip worth our while.

Just want to let you know that Ocean Reef will charge you a 10% cancellation fee even if you have reservations 7 months away. We have stayed here two time before and had a great time. Because of circumstances beyond our control we had to cancel this summer's vacation plans (2006), but the resort insisted that we pay a 10% cancellation fee which was over $130.00. I don't see how this could be an inconvenience for them when we were not even planning to be there until the end of August. Don't book reservations until you are really sure because apparently the 10% cancellation fee goes into effect immediately. I was not told this during the three times I made reservations with them.

We just returned from a nightmare four-day "Romantic package" stay at the Ocean Reef. We arrived to find our room without the add ons for the package. No, flowers, fruit basket, or champagne. Went to the desk and was told no one was there to provide them until the next day as the flowers were dying and the champagne was warm. All night we listened to the people in the next room. We were told every room on the floor has an adjoining door and you can hear some noise through them. Even after the people next to us checked out, they left the TV on and no one would turn it off during our entire stay. Be prepared for noise!
Second day, got the flowers with a warm bottle of Andre Champagne. Still no fruit. Went to the desk and was promised that I would get it the next day.
Third Day, returned to an uncleaned room, no fruit. I Went to the desk and was told by the night manager they didn't have any staff working to clean it as they left for the day. Also, that they decided that they would no longer give the fruit basket (which they had advertised on their site.) He said he would try to find towels for us but that he was not going up there to clean it. The manager and two women stood behind the desk doing absolutely nothing! I could not believe anyplace could be so poorly run. I was fuming and went went back to the room then my wife went down and waited 20 minutes for some supplies and she cleaned the room herself. Not even an apology!
We were later told by the staff "Our customer service here is not what it used to be." That is an understatement. Was given a card by one of the only concerned staff for a William Hedgepath, Assistant General Manager. Was told that he worked days and would straighten things out once he heard about what happened. He never returned our call/messages.
Fourth Day, this was a great day as we checked out early AM and left.
If you want a clean place with any kind of service, the items advertised in their packages, or a quiet room- then choose someplace else! It amazes me anyone would be content to stay at the Ocean Reef.

Our daughter wanted a pool party for her birthday. Knowing that her birthday is smack dab in themiddle of winter, I researched several places in the Myrtle Beach area that had indoor water activities. The indoor pool are is huge and has a great deal of stuff for the kids to do. We went with a total of 3 families and had a blast at the pool.

The only problems that I encountered were the toilet and bathtub. The toilet didn't flush well and the bathtub didn't drain. The other 2 families had similar problems with the tub draining during showers. It gets up to about your ankles and just slowly drains. Took about 20 min after 1 shower for the tub to drain completely. One other issue is the rooms are on an outside hall. So when you come back from the pool be prepared to get a little chilly when traveling back to your room.

All and all the resort was great!

my wife and i pulled into ocean reef on nov.13. we booked online and check in was effortless. we were in our oceanfront room in less than 20 min. our room was just what we expected. after hours of researching packages online ocean reef beat them all. there was no problems with our tee times, and the breakfast was good and housekeeping was great. many summer reviews made reference to parking across the street, but in nov. that was not a problem. overall i would rate the hotel, and the staff a 9 out of 10..in years past we stayed at the sand dunes but ocean reef beat them by 200 dollars...we will return next year if their golf package prices are still competitive..

I want to let you all in on a little secret...The Ocean Reef offers the best romantic getaway at Myrtle Beach...The rooms I am speaking of are expensive, but if you do like me and go in the winter months, you can get out for around $125 a night. The suites are on the 17th floor and have the largest, most romantic jacuzzis I have ever seen in a hotel. This is not a whirlpool bath...It is a very large, deep jacuzzi - there are double sinks and a shower - The bathroom is an essential part of the suite - perfect for a romantic weekend. The rooms are so special, they have names! (They are executive suites) We stayed in the "Turtle Room". Being on the top floor, you don't have alot of traffic in the hallway - only 4 or 5 rooms up there...The balcony is huge, and you can't beat the view...I am going back this November to enjoy our little secret...

Me and my mate ron have just had ten fantastic days at the Ocean Reef Resort and could not fault anything about this hotel. The room was cleaned daily and the ocean view was incredible (dancin dolphins every mornin around 6.30 am).The breakfast catered for everyone, grits and biscuits n gravy for the locals or cereals and a fry up for the brits. The hot tub of a night was just the job after a hard day at the golf course and the pool and lazy river were also great. The majority of staff were freindly and helpful, all in all could not fault this hotel so i hope this is of some use to anyone thinking about staying here.
