My wife and myself, and our 3 kids (8, 4, 3 yo), stayed here from 6/30 through 7/7. It was our first trip to MB in 8 years, and we stayed here on the recommendation of others on Trip Advisor and on the recommendation of my parents and brother who stay here often.
The only possible negatives I could come up with about the place are the following:
N1. The parking deck location is a bit inconvenient; across the street and to the north of the buildings.
N2. There are no bathrooms inside either of the 2 indoor waterparks. Instead, there is a small 'trailer' located outside of the Palms Building with small restrooms in it. I can't understand why the developer / architect who designed the buildings did not see the need for inside bathrooms in the waterpark areas.
N3. There is a beach public access between the 2 buildings. I'm not sure what it would take 'politically' to eliminate this, but it would be a great spot for an outdoor waterpark and courtyard - type use.
The positives far outweigh the negatives. Our 3 BR 3 BATH oceanfront unit in the Palms Building was spectacular and plenty big enough for the 5 of us. Big Screen TVs in the living area and BRs. Decent WiFi inside the room. Maid service was sufficient each day. Being on the 12th floor, we never waited more than a minute or 2 for an elevator. The decks off of the room were huge compared to other resort we stayed at.
The indoor waterparks and outdoor pools were nice; always saw staff walking around checking wristbands and cleaning the facilities. 99% of the employees we encountered at the resort during our stay were polite. There were always plenty of pooslide lounge chairs available no matter what the time of day (in other words you don't have to go down to the pool area at 5 AM with towels to 'mark' your chairs for the day). The beach out in front of the buildings always had people on it, but it was never overcrowded. Dunes Village is located at 52nd Street N; in a perfect location next to only a couple of hi-rise towers and mostly upscale residences.
Lastly, do your homework and ask questions before booking a room here. An ANGLE OCEANFRONT Room means just that. You will be able to see the ocean from your room's deck, but you will not be directly oceanfront (i.e. in the front of the building). If staying in the Palms, your deck will either overlook the adjacent residences to the south or the Palmetto building to the north. If staying in the Palmetto building, your deck will either overlook the Palms building to the south or an adjacent hi-rise to the north. The rooms listed as OCEANFRONT are just that ... they are in the front of the buildings with decks that directly overlook the ocean.
The next time we are in MB, we will definately be staying here.
