“A Great Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

Stayed here for our second time in 2 years. Hotel staff very helpful and trustworthy, Indoor water park in each tower is awesome, beach is clean and the rooms were quiet and clean. A little upset that they got Starbucks in the hotel but i didn't have to go there. The outdoor tiki bar was a plus and Colin the bartender knows his stuff. I watched him take 9 drink orders by ear remembered them, made them and rang them up perfectly. He remembered us and our Son well.
The new pirate ship playground is a great new addition. My Son loved playing on it each night, made new friends and it helped wear him down before bedtime. a lot to do for the kids and the hotel had a glow toy dance party our last night which was very neat. A great family vacation! I am recommending Dunes Village Resort to all.

Room Tip: Ocean Front gives a great view no mater which tower you stay in. Choose the valet parking. It'...

Your recommendation is very appreciated! Thank you for taking the time to write about Dunes Village Resort. Your 5 star rating means a lot to us.

I am sorry that Starbucks is not your thing, but the pastries and other tast treats there are wonderful, even if you don't want their coffee.

I am thrilled that the pirate ship playground was a huge hit, as well as the GLOW PARTY we now have on Saturday nights.

We hope you keep coming back year after year to watch us change things up for you and your family. See you next time!!!

We were 7 families staying at the Dunes for a group trip and everything was great! Our rooms were perfect for the week that we stayed there and we fully enjoyed all of the amenities. Being right on the beach was very convenient and there plenty to do at the resort. If we ever wanted to leave the resort to do other activities or eat out, everything was within a very close driving distance. I would definitely return to this place!

Thank you so much for this wonderful 5 star review. 7 families is a lot of people to make happy! I am thrilled to hear that wesucceeded in that respect!

Our location and amenities really set us apart from our competition, and our staffing is the best on the beach. I am glad to hear that you were happy with our resort, and we hope to see you back here again!

Our family of three and my in-laws spent the week of June 10th at Myrtle Beach at the Dunes Village Resort in a 2 bed/2 bath ocean front room. The view was wonderful. The room was very clean and very nice. We had an end room so all the bedrooms had balconies and views of the ocean. We had an extended balcony, which was awesome and provided enough room to be able to allow everyone to sit outside and watch the ocean. The beds were comfortable and clean.

There is so much to do at the hotel that we didn't get to do everything while we were there. Our 9 year old played ping pong, shuffleboard, swam in the lazy rivers, rode all four waterslides and played in the ocean. By Friday he was actually tired of having fun.

The only con we can think of is the housekeeping issue of towels. Every day of our stay we had to call down for towels.

The gift shop was nice for a late night snack. We highly recommend the valet service for your car because the garage is across the street and it helps to have the valet service when you go in and out a lot so you don't waste your energy and time travelling to your car. The valet guys know their stuff and can give you tips on things to do outside of the hotel.

The hotel is located very close to everything you may want to do. There is plenty of miniature golf, MagiQuest, eating and waterpark/go-cart tracks.

If you want to go charter-boat fishing we recommend Captain John Schuchman and Reel Action Fishing Charters. Captain John was the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He loves fishing with children and lets them help him get minnows and check crab traps.

He is very knowledgeable about the watery areas and knows where to go to catch "the big ones". Our son caught a manta ray, which was great because his birthday was the next day. It made his whole week.

If you are coming to Myrtle Beach with children stay at the Dunes Village Resort. You will be glad you did!!!!!!!

Room Tip: Rooms with extended balconies are better for larger families staying.

This was our second year in a row going to the Dunes. We stay in the Palms building in an Angled Oceanfront Deluxe 2 Bedroom. These rooms have a great view of the beach and the boardwalk area.
In all we had another good stay minus a few issues. First the positives........the girl at check in was fantastic and very helpful. They have put in a new, really cool Pirate ship in the play area and as usual there were plenty of activities for the kids and the water park, pools and beaches were great.
Now for the negatives......we had roaches and ants in our unit this year. I brought this to the front desks attention and they reassured me that the units are treated regularly. I think it might need a better treatment. In addition to the bugs our unit was not serviced one day due to the fact that our "service" sign was missing despite putting it out before we left for the morning. It was a little frustrating.
I've searched all over and this is still by far one of the best places to stay for the money. You don't have to leave the resort if you don't want to. We love it and plan to go back.

Room Tip: If you reserve an "Angled Oceanfront Deluxe 2 Bedroom" and you would like for the master b...

Thank you for taking the time to share your Dunes Village Resort experience with the world. We appreciate all feedback, and when you share your concerns, they become our concerns.

We have a very stringent pest control program to handle any unwanted critters that may show up. I apologize that any got through, as they are on a strict schedule to keep that from happening. I hope that our maintenance department responded quickly.

I am happy to hear that this will not deter you from coming back. As you know from previous visits, pests are not a common occurance around here. We look forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks again for staying with us!

I am vegan went to the restaurant inside the Dunes Village for dinner. The chef personally came out of the kitchen and offered to make me a wrap consisting of sautéed vegetables with lettuce and a large cup of fruit. It was wonderful and I couldn't have been happier with my meal. Highly recommended.

This is our second trip to the Dunes and once again it was perfect!! Clean rooms, clean property! The 4 water slides, inside and outside pools, inside outside lazy rivers not to mention the NEW pirate ship outside play area to keep the kiddos occupied. So much to do you won't have to leave. If you have kids this is the place to be. Also a small outside bar with live music that we could hear from our ocean front room: Also this Resort is in North Myrtle which is where you want to be because south is a little rough:.College kids, beach week kids, dinking and partying all nite. Will def be going back again:) Keep up the good work Dunes!!!

Room Tip: The "ocean view" rooms are only partial views. Not a great view but still worth it for th...

Room & Staff

We arrived after check-in, and found our room wasn't ready yet, but that lasted only a moment. We found out we were upgraded from a two to three bedroom suite...and the room was huge. It actually took measurable time to walk from one end to the other. We had reserved an ocean view, and we got that from every balcony, as well as a fun view of the main boardwalk (and occasional fireworks).

The room was very comfortable for the most part. It was a little lived-in, but had all the amenities of home. It was more like a condo away from home than a pristine hotel room. The only downside was the room was a little damp at all time, but I'm sure that had everything to do with being so close to the ocean and SC humidity.

The staff was excellent, and even just passing housekeeping staff earned you a genuine smile and hello. We had some rowdy people check in below us, but a simple call to the desk not only had it fixed in 5min, but it was never a problem again. Housekeeping did a great job at keeping up with us.

Complaints

Only minor complaints, which I would barely call them. One was the fact they mention you can get free shows on check-in, but this is bait for sitting through a sales pitch for buying or time-sharing a unit. No hard-sale in trying to get you to go, though, which we appreciated. We also found a charge from the bar on our bill that wasn't ours (it overlapped with our check-in, so maybe the last family leaving having one more visit). It was fixed with little debate, but I felt just a little uncomfortable having to deal with it.

Parking

Some people mention the parking, which is a garage across the street. It wasn't a big deal to have to walk over to it to go places, and we were thankful they had parking to offer. I will say for a newer garage, it seemed like it was designed by the people who design airplane seating. The spaces were a little tight (esp since most people had SUVs), as well as the corners to go up & down. They were also square and not curved, like the whole thing was designed fro Tron motorcycles to race through. It also wouldn't hurt to add some mirrors, as entering every level seemed like a blind turn.

Location

If you're into the boardwalk, it won't be a fit for you. After being there with our family for a day, that turned out to be the best thing for us. While there's plenty to do there, the beach is much more crowned, and there a lot of HS and college kids having fun. The hotel's location about 3-5mi up the road was perfect. It was quiet, the beach was clean and with plenty of space, and everything is well-kept.

You will have problems without a car, though. We didn't try the on-site dining, and if you have no car (and little will for long walks on a busy road nearby), you will be stuck. We were able to drive places, and there was plenty to be had in within 5-10min. Bring your review apps for dining/activities, as there are a lot (good and bad).

Overall

For a family, it's a perfect place and location. The indoor waterpark is a nice touch. Don't expect a Great Wolf setup, but the kids requested going there as often as the beach, so it's a hit with the people who get the most out of it. It's a nice thing to have in your back pocket for the occasional rain storm.

For us--a family with kids under 10--it was a perfect stay and place for us. The kids had a memorable time, and we came away without feeling run-down from chasing activities or fretting details. They give you plenty to do and space to do it in.

Room Tip: Request a higher floor, and the ocean front view is exactly what it says.
