“Loved our stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We stayed in the Palms tower in the 2 bedroom suite. I loved every minute and my kids (ages 4 and 8) ask to go back almost daily. The room was very clean and fully stocked. Well, unless you plan on frying eggs or something, in which case, bring your own big nonstick skillet from home. ;) The pools and hot tubs were very chlorinated, almost to the point of feeling like acid in your eyes, but there were no bathrooms inside of the water park. O.o So if a child had to go pee, they had to get Momma and/or Daddy to walk them outside in freezing temperatures to find a potty. I'm sure lots of kids never even asked, and for that reason I was grateful for the chlorine! Other than that, we had a blast at the water parks (both of them!) and loved the quick and easy access to the beach. We also took full advantage of the golf cart shuttle to and from everywhere. I also loved the jacuzzi hot tub and washer and dryer. My husband and kids left for an afternoon, so Momma enjoyed a long quite bath while the laundry washed and dried away. The view is gorgeous from the room in the Palms tower...nothing but millionaire mile and the sky tower! We had a blast and look SO forward to coming back soon! :) Oh, and Sean in the restaurant in the mornings...awesome server as well as a delicious breakfast!!

Room Tip: Ocean front is definitely worth the extra dollars and if you book a room in the Palms, be sure to as...

Thank you for taking the time to write about your recent stay at Dunes Village Resort. We believe that it is time you told those children "YES" and schedule another visit!

We test the water in all of our water features many times per day. If our water tests outside of the safe range even the slightest bit, we close that attraction down until the numbers are right. We take safety very seriously, and never take any shortcuts when it comes to our pools. They are such an attraction to this resort that we continually monitor them.

The chlorine smell in the park comes from the fact that steam is coming off our water, bringing the smell of chlorine with it. Again, safety is our number one concern, and our parks are always maintained in the safest way possible.

In the Palmetto Water Park, there actually is a restroom inside the park. As for the Palms, the restroom is right out the side the door for your use.

We hope to see you and the family again soon. THnaks again for sharing your experience!

“Great Family Resort!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 8, 2013

We have stayed here for two years and love it! It is pricey but the indoor water park is great for my 3 year old daughter. The rooms are clean and the staff excellent. We used the valet parking both times and only had to wait during the check in and out times but just call ahead and u won't have a problem. I never had a problem with the chlorine in the swimming areas. We have tried other places but really like Dunes Village. It is our go to spot.

“A great time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

We stayed in an angle double queen suite, which is basically a 1-bedroom condo in the Palm Tower for 5 nights in December 2012.

Pros: Friendly employees (except for a couple in the kids' activities area), the daily kids' activities (face painting, magic show, balloon animals), lovely beach area, playground, & the indoor water parks.

Cons: WAY too much chlorine in indoor pool areas (I never saw the pool water being tested), burning eyes & throat from said pool water, front desk was always understaffed, & outdated room furnishings.

We will come back though. Great value!

“Great alternative to Great Wolf Lodge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

In these days where we all try to pinch pennies and get more bang for our buck, I'm always looking for ways to make a great trip inexpensive. Being from the Charlotte, NC area, My three kids wanted to go to Great Wolf Lodge in Concord. When I priced out a two night stay, I was appalled that the price for lodging alone was over $600.00. What a rip off.

That is when I got the bright idea to try for a comparable Myrtle Beach resort. It is the first weekend in January, the off season! Enter in the Dunes Village Resort. Two towers filled with amenities, a large room that could handle 5 people, and no extra fees for the additional person. The result- $179.00 a night for an oceanfront angle with two queen size beds, a washer/dryer, trundle bed, and pullout couch. The room was clean and comfortable. The kitchenette, though little used, was well stocked. I was so pleased with the price of the room, I also bolted on a breakfast buffet in the Admirals Room.

The water park is one of the largest indoor areas I have seen in Myrtle Beach. You have two very large slides in the South tower, a pool, a spray garden, and three hot tubs 1 large and two small. The area is heated to about 84 degrees, and is comfortable in swim ware. Outside of the south tower is a lazy river that is also heated. My daughters made use of this too. In the north tower, there is an indoor lazy river, kiddie area, and smaller water slides. This area also has a fooseball table, two pool tables, two ping pong tables, shuffleboard, and a Nintendo Wii. Overall impression of both areas is very positive. My kids, being older, enjoyed the South Tower more due to the more intense water slides. Overall, I would say these amenities are likely no better or worse than Great Wolf at half the price. My kids had a blast!

The buffet at the Admiral's Room was awesome. Sean was our waiter, and he made sure our every whim was taken care of. He made sure we remained topped of with hot coffee, juice, and hot chocolate. He even pulled the kids waffles from the iron, and he would have custom orders made in the back. He was very prompt and friendly. Overall, this was $37 for a full service buffet for 5 people.

Cons- there were a few here as well. Most everything was well maintained, but the pool tables and fooseball table are showing their age and need replacement. Also, the chlorine levels in the small spas seemed a bit high. My eyes became very irritated. On the other hand, the large spa seemed like it needed a good shock and was cloudy.

Overall, I have to rate this hotel highly for its amenities and cleanliness. The kids got worn out at the water park. The service was very good. I will be returning this summer for some beach time-no doubt about it.
