“Perfect Family Vacay Spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

Dunes Village was recommended to me by a number of friends with children, and we were lucky enough to grab a last minute reservation just after the 4th of July. I originally reserved the Oceanfront Deluxe King Studio, but was immediately upgraded to a 1-bedroom Oceanfront Queen Suite upon check-in for no extra cost! The space was nice and big, the bathroom was large with a jacuzzi tub, and my 6 year old flipped over the murphy bed in the wall. He thought that was the coolest thing he'd ever seen. I loved having the full kitchen and a washer/dryer combo in the room. The room was very clean when we arrived, and daily maid service was a big plus.

Myrtle Beach is always fun for kids because the waves are big (sometimes too big), and are great for boogie boarding or body surfing. The sand was clean, and there was always plenty of room to play and build castles. The big hit of the trip was the indoor water park. The water slides were super fun and the whole family loved the lazy river. Anytime it started to rain on the beach, we went right inside and continued playing in the water. There were ping pong tables, pool tables, foosball tables, shuffleboard, MEGA sized checkers and chess pieces, and even a wii for everyone to play. They even had daily activities for the kids if they choose to participate. There was a small putt-putt course on the property, but there are also big putt-putt places very near by (walking distance). There were so many things for the kids to do at the hotel, we didn't get to experience them all. Overall, the "fun factor" was the best part of the hotel.

We love dining out when we're on vacation (I want to cook as little as possible, it's my vacation too)! After spending our first night waiting in line for over an hour at one of the local restaurants, we decided to try the on-site restaurant at the hotel. IT WAS GREAT!!! We walked right in and got a table (no waiting), the food was just as good as the night before, AND, it was less expensive! I would recommend the on-site restaurant to everyone. And, let me just say that the breakfast was fantastic! We arrived to a long line each morning, but it moved very quickly (we never waited more than 10 minutes) The buffet was always fresh and tasty with a great assortment of foods. Both boys (ages 10 and 6) were happy, and so were the hubby and I...and for only $32 for all 4 of us, it was well worth the money. And they served Seattle's Best Coffee....YUM!

We will definitely return to Dunes Village when we go to Myrtle Beach. We like to go to different beaches each summer, but we might return to Myrtle Beach next year just because of Dunes Village.

Room Tip: Call the hotel directly and talk to in-house reservations. They're SUPER helpful and very kind!

We are so pleased to hear that your vacation was so wonderful here at Dunes Village Resort! Your wonderful description of all that we have to offer says a lot about all that you enjoyed while you were here. The "fun factor," as you so eloquently stated, is our ultimate goal at Dunes Village Resort. We are thrilled to hear that you may be returning to us. Definitely call our reservations center if you get an opportunity. We have so many different floor plans, and they know more about this resort than anyone, so they can get you exactly what you are looking for to fill your needs. Can't wait to see you next year!

we came to dunes village resort for the week after labor day. it turned out to be a great time as we got a great rate, relatively quiet beaches and wonderful weather. it is a bit further north from the main 'downtown' boardwalk area, but this was quite nice as it was more low key and we were able to enjoy the views of the beautiful houses in the residential area. we woke up to a wonderful ocean view every day. the room was large and spacious. small complaints: that they did not clean our room on the first day or give us a heads up that housekeeping services would end at a certain time (admittedly, we didn't leave until late afternoon). they do not provide big beach towels - only smaller bathsized towels in the water park area.

Dunes village is the hotel to be at when coming to Myrtle beach. My husband and our two kids and I all felt very welcom when staying at this hotel. Daily there was a great schedule of activities for the kids from face painting everday or my kid's favorite....tie dying t-shirts. The captains cafe was not our favorite but is still a good meal with good atmosphere. The water parks at Dune Village were marvelous! we felt very comfortable letting our kids walk of the stair to the top of the slides where the lifeguard stood to let them know when they were able to slide. Overall the week was magnificent and we will definitely be coming back.

We have stayed here before and i want to say that our family enjoys this resort. The times we have stayed here before, have been "mini" family reunions where several of us from all over have met for fun in the sun. Of course these trips always required the larger rooms 3 or 4 bed rooms. This trip was just myself , wife and three year old so we opted in for a queen 1 bedroom suite. In comparison...there was none. The larger rooms were top notch and super clean. This one , not so much. Very worn and used i guess you would say. Beer bottles behind the dresser, a mystery goo on counter tops and tables in living room. Furniture was beat and banged up. The back was even off a chair. Toliet was loose at the floor and rocked. Tub had crumbs in it. which was fine because there was no hot water our 2nd night. Now in fairness, the sheets and towels were clean and everything worked. As for the rest of the resort, most was just as it shouldve been. The trip was overall enjoyable but i will advise against the smaller, more used rooms.

Our stay was for 4 days just after Labor Day Weekend when the rates really dropped. We also took advantage of the Fall Specials and saved even more! This is the second time we have stayed here. Our 6 year old son loves this place. The big attractions are the 2 indoor waterparks with 2 water slides in each building. The slides in one building are for the smaller children, eventhough adults use them also...they are not small. The slides in the other tower are more for teens and adults, maybe 2 stores high, and EVERYONE uses them, from smaller children to older adults...lots of fun. One thing I appreciate is that a staff member is always present at the top of the slides, for both towers, to make sure people/kids don't collide going down or exiting the slide. The assortment of lazy rivers and pools is nice too. Some areas are heated while others not as much. I believe they also use saltwater in their pools, but only something I overheard so I'm not positive about that. All of the workers there are pleasant and will usually speak to you or lend you a hand without complaint. The beach in front of the hotel is groomed with a tractor early in the am so the beach is usually suitable and ready for you. The grassy areas have many chairs, a couple of bench swings, and a playground along with a small putt putt course. There are Foosball tables, ping pong, Wii, and daily childrens' activities all in the indoor pool area in the Palm's Tower (I believe). The other tower is called Palmetto Tower. I have stayed both times in the Palm's Tower which houses the smaller water slides, games, and children's activities. It also has the Captain's Cafe restaurant and bar. We used it both times and could not complain about anything we ordered...ribeye steak, cheeseburgers, sandwiches, drinks. The food is good and if you don't want to walk across the street, get in your car and drive through traffic to find a restaurant somewhere, this is not a bad deal. There is also Seattle's Best Coffee in the lobby area. Our room was on the 1st floor this time and we could smell their coffee every morning. Parking is in a 6 level garage across the street with restricted access. An elevator will help you if you need it. 1st floor parking for oversize and handicap vehicles. Handicap parking also in front of the entrance on the hotel side. Valet parking available for $10 day. Oh yeah, children's activities sometimes come with a small charge of $3 to $5. Our room was a King Studio Oceanfront on the 1st floor. The bed is fairly hard and you might start feeling it after a few nights, I know I do. But my son likes this place so I bear it. There were 2 flat screen tv's. The room was clean and smelled good. The bathroom was roomy enough and light maid service available everyday with full service every 4th day. The WiFi was weak at times, but nothing to complain much about.

Overall, this is a nice place to stay. You can tell they put effort into this property and trying to make sure guests have a good time. The indoor waterparks are a big reason to come, along with the on-site restaurant. Parking across the street is a little inconvenient but there is plenty of parking when we go, there is an elevator, and the garage is secure. Oh yeah, there are basketball and tennis courts (small) behind the garage. If I were going to invest in a property for rental income, I would consider this place. It always has lots of people and we were seeing license plates from Canada and the mid-West...pretty cool I thought. Come stay and have fun.

Room Tip: If you reserve online, call afterwards and talk to reservations. Room assignment is usually 2 weeks...

We have stayed here numerous times. The rooms are clean and there is plenty to do. However, we were trapped in an elevator that got stuck for over 25 minutes. Noone from management ever contacted us after maintenance got us out to even apologize or make sure everything was okay. Disappointed that management would take this so lightly.

I visited this resort with my family in June and it was awesome. I didn't leave a review because I am new to trip advisor and did not even think to leave a review but as I prepare for my trip here next month I came across the reviews here. The staff here go above and beyond to make sure your trip is great. Never had a problem with house keeping room always clean loved the pools and waterparks. I read reviews on here and can't believe people would leave bad reviews because they left their stuff behind it is the traveler job to keep up with their own stuff and some bad reviews seem like the person wanted a free vacation I will be back here in October

Your kind words are welcome anytime, and we are glad you too the time to write about your June stay here at Dunes Village Resort. We are so excited that you will be back here in October! You already know all the good stuff from the summer, but did you know that our Activities Department has crafts and games all year long? And did you know our concierge service can book you tickets for shows as well as rounds of golf? And that we have a spa on our property to pamper you ever further? We have so much available all year long. We will see you in a few short weeks and you will see, again, how great we are! Thanks for your review.
