“Great Location, convenient mini kitchen, run down units”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 days ago NEW

We stayed in the North Building. We went as part of a baseball tournament in July. I had 2 kids with me. We got the oceanfront room and it was totally worth it. Theres nothing like waking up and looking out into the ocean.

The Good.
Kitchen Efficiency made it easy to make breakfast and lunch. View from the room was beautiful. Had 2 pools right on the first floor right off the lobby and a mini lazy river adjacent to our building with was connected. And walking 10 more yards was the entrance to the beach. My 10 year old had a blast.

The Bad
The building we were in was run down. The lobby was the entrance to the pool area so it was concrete and lounge chairs. Rugs were bare, felt dirty to bare feet. Bathroom run down. Wifi was very sluggish, couldn't even make an outside call without it dropping. Parking in our unit was sparse so we would have to park in the next building over which had multiple floors of parking. But if you go out late at night, you have to go even further. On the weekends it was a local hangout for young people adding to the noise. The lobby was filled with 20 somethings. Luckily the pool closes at 10pm.

The Ugly
Decor and furnishings was very dated.

We've been travelling to the Dayton House for more than 10 years now and we think it's a great overall value. Being "outdoor" people, we don't spend a lot of time in our room and appreciate the fantastic pool-side snackbar which is very handy and saves us from having to scout out restaurants. I have walked the beach to look for alternatives to the Dayton House but haven't been able to find anything as clean and welcoming as the pool area and grassy area complete with umbrella tables and lounge chairs (don't know why other resorts haven't strived for this type of comfort!?). While the rooms are a bit dated, the amenities are all there just as you would expect in a higher priced condo in the area. On our recent trip in the oceanfront suite, we had wifi, 2 flatscreens, 2 telephones and a full stocked kitchen area with a good sized fridge, stove and coffee maker (free in-room coffee!). The cleaning staff are very approachable and like to help whenever possible. Don't forget to make use of the Dayton House discount you can get at the local breakfast & lunch diner across the street or at California Pizza. Great local restaurants and attractions.

Room Tip: Ask for a room far away from the elevator lobby on your floor to eliminate excessive noise from othe...

An 8 day stay...very clean and suitable accomodation although the rooms are a little dated. Large enough to have space to move comfortably, and the cleaning service provided was very good. All the staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The ocean views from the balcony are wonderful, and why we wanted to stay there.

Room Tip: You need a suite for the best views. Our floor was quiet, but I think we were just lucky as it depen...

We have been going to the Dayton House for years. The South building is our favorite. They have nice rooms, plenty of parking, wonderful lawn space for tanning, gorgeous main pool with entertainment, friendly staff and a nice restaurant right next to the property. They also have the most comfortable beds in the world. We love it! Awesome place to stay!

Room Tip: The South building is great for sitting on the balcony in the afternoon sun.

We stayed in the West Building, and for the little time we spent in the hotel and the great price we got, it was fine for us. The West Building is not located on the beach, but is just across the street. One thing that I did not like about staying in the West Building is that the elevators are not secure at all. Anyone walking by on the street can get on the elevator and come up to your room (although this never happened to us while we were there, just a concern). The rooms are out-dated (decorations, bathrooms, kitchen area). Beds were comfortable, and we never heard a sound coming from any of the surrounding rooms! There is free wifi and a flat-screen tv. The bathtub made lots of creaking noises when you stood in it to take a shower, but it was clean. Housekeeping came late in the day everyday we were there, which we were surprised about that. Check-in was easy. Plenty of parking near the West Building, even got to park in the few covered spaces twice!

We have stayed here every year since 2010. The hotel is very clean and bug free. The internet is good and comes with the price of the room. They have many tables and umbrellas in front of the beach to sit and read or enjoy the sun. Staff is very friendly. They have numerous parking lots. The beds are very comfortable. We stay at this time of year because we go to abraham productions singing in the sun. Great southern gospel music and Spirit-filled preaching.

We have been visiting The Dayton House for 50 years. We we first stayed there it was a small motel and a large house but every year something new has been added or redone. This is a great place to relax , sit under the umbrella's reading a book or bring the children or in our case the grandchildren and they will never be bored. You can walk to many great places to eat or get in the car and enjoy all that Myrtle Beach has to offer. We have stayed in the suites or oceanfront eff. next to the pool. I need to point out that this is a family owned motel that takes pride in what they do.
